Sunday August 12th - Easy Run to Bill Moore Lake

You will meet at 9AM in Downieville and follow Timmbuck2 up to Empire and then on to Bill Moore Lake. This is an easy trail that a stock truck could do with no issues. There are a few small moguls and one area called the Rock Garden (Not hard) that has a bypass.

You then drive up to Bill Moore Lake and walk around the Lake and have a picnic (if you want). The Lake is in a beautiful Crescent peak that you can see Denver from on one side.

Seems like the same thing is happening this year as last when there was huge interest in the "moderate run" up Red Cone and no one showed for the "easy run" on Bill Moore. There were about twenty vehicles on Red Cone last year and three on Bill Moore.

Maybe there would be more interest if the Bill Moore run included Red Elephant Hill and and Mill Creek as a loop?? It would make it slightly more challenging and it might help distribute the vehicles rather than having a huge traffic jam on Red Cone.

Just a thought.

I would be up for that...but I think that takes the difficulty level up a little...but heck, Bill Moore Lake is already listed as "difficult" in a guide book.

I agree...my stock LX had no problems at all, although the lockers came in handy on the 1 steep, loose section.

Jeff, I could see getting back to Empire well before 1 if we don't spend much time at the lake...

Took my daughter up Bill Moore today for her first trail run with me. Nice and very easy, certainly tamer than Slaughterhouse as Hulk said. Personally I think people would enjoy Slaughterhouse more but that's just me.

We picked up at least a case worth of beer cans and number of "Littleton Lions" plastic cups. Appears the Lions wanted to leave their mark.

The Bill Moore trail is pretty easy, very scenic, but also very bumpy (but maybe not in a Lexus My frame of reference is an FJ40). I think the meeting place was the Starbucks in Downieville (?). There is only one spot on the trail where a locker would make things easier, but not necessary.

Brandon, you could do Bill Moore easy in your truck. The lake is awesome. Bring a blanket and picnic lunch and walk around the lake and find a nice spot.

It is bumpy in a Lexus, too. But then again I usually drive too fast. Take it slow, and not bad. Beautiful scenery. I also have a LX with 285's, but locked...you should be just fine.

Thanks Guys, I guess I should take my running boards back off. Hopefully I'll be able to swing this. Downievill? Is that up I-70 by Breeze ski rentals? What time, 9:00AM. Hopefully the wife will go or I'll be able to sneak out for part of the day.

I doubt you need to take off the running boards. There is really one one spot that might be troublesome ( steep climb that is rutted out)but if my stock 64 with street tires can get up ok. A stock 80 would be fine.

Just got a call from the wife who is at the dr. The babies heart rate dipped on the non-stress test so they are doing an unexpected ultra sound. DOn't know if I'll be there on Sunday, or being at the hospital waiting to be a new dad. I'll keep you posted.

Damn Dr's seem to revel in giving people heart attacks with information like that. I remember when the idiot "specialist" at Kaiser told my wife that he thought my youngest was blind because she would not focus on his stupid pen.

Turns out, a week later after seeing a real specialist, that she was just farsighted (like all babies) and was focusing on stuff far away. (need a "whew" smiley) She focuses just fine now (and did by 11-12 months as we were told she would) and just turned 4.

For our oldest it was the "stress test" (IIRC) where you are supposed to use the buzzer to "wake up" the baby or some nonsense. Our oldest didn't bother to do anything which of course had the Dr's all a twitter and us scared half to death. She turns 8 on the 1st.

Sorry for the hijack but I hope everything is ok and it is just a "scare".
