Stripped threads in Drag Link

This weekend, I was working on my 80 series, replacing worn-out tie rods. When working on the drag link, one of the ends, upon removal, showed pretty narly threads and metal shavings. The new end was not threading in.

The bar is an HD slee part. I'm just curious if this can be repaired, or should I just replace the bar? I'm not too familiar with heli coils and haven't run into this particular issue before.

Any advice welcome.

You could try and take it to a machine shop to see if they can chase the threads if they have a tap that size. I don't think a helicoil would work on that application.

Sorry no, I live down in Monument but I am sure someone else will chime in with recommendations.

I'd be inclined to think the opposite of chasing, that if there were stripped or rusted threads that a Heli-Coil would be preferred and possibly the only solution. Chasing threads removes material and that's beyond what came out with the TRE in the first place. If it's a few threads or minor repair that's OK but if it's significant thread repair or cutting that's not ideal.

Appreciate that info, I did reach out to Slee and left a message. Was just trying to figure out potential options while I wait for a call back.

Was it the left hand thread? I had the same issue, call slee and they just sold me a new bar and left hand tie rod end. I did say that the thread cutting die for the reverse threads are probably bad.

I don't know if they make them in house or not

I had slee put in the new tie rod end on before I took it and paid for it. It was still tighter than should have been but at least I could turn it by hand.

Oh and the first one was a new tie rod and tie rod ends. It wasn't like I was using old parts
