Hey all,
I think I might have a stripped caliper bolt hole. Is it as easy as just drilling out & tapping to a larger size bolt, or helicoil it? Or will this be a much bigger problem than I’m hoping?
Thanks for any ideas!

I like option A. Did it on a 62 I bought years ago and went with an SAE bolt that was a hair bigger than OEM so as not to have to go a full size metric bolt bigger. Or, you could do it like the PO did with this truck. Wrap a little duck tape around the bolt, twist it in and call it good! 🤪

Looks like a half inch is 13mm so would be just a hair bigger. That might be the winner! Thanks!

Helicon is what Sascha and I did on his 60. As I recall we were able to get a kit with just what was needed for a very reasonable cost.

It was very straightforward to install and will last forever.

The larger bolt will work, but you don’t want to have to keep track of that bolt overtime!

Had one on my 80 drilled and tapped to 1/2 fine in Taos during an Outlaws run years ago. Been fine since. Easy to keep track of.

Tapping a 1/2" fine thread would function just keen. If you already have a tap that's the high speed, low drag approach.

OCD would require me spending money (I know, I know, unnecessarily) on a threadsert or helicoil kit.

But I use a 6mm JIS instead of 1/4" when putting in a fuse block. It really bothers me when I have to use a wrench other than 8/10/12/14/17/19 on a Toyota.

FWIW the caliper mounting bolts (90080-10213) on my truck are M12-1.25 x 34mm, but I don't know if that's the same as other trucks.

So the NAPA kit would be: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_38129
