The yellow plastic ones don't seem to need bait - maybe there is something in the plastic? They also have more of a hair trigger than the old school all metal ones. I find that a toasted almond chunk wedged in the loop of the metal trigger assures that the mouse will work hard enough getting the almond, that the trap is triggered.

I've broken two of the three yellow plastic ones and only one of the four old school metal ones. i've been using peanut butter for bait. works well. haven't seen those pvc pipe bait stations, but i like the idea of the pb scented bait...might hold up in warm weather better than the pb (although even melted away, i still get kills)

i also tend to catch a lot in the dogs water bucket during dry times. not sure the dog is a fan of that, but i was getting one a day for about a week back in january

We get a lot of raptor activity so I've stuck with snap traps rather than poison to keep the hawks and eagles happy.

We get tons of magpies and they eat all our dead mice with no issues. If we lived in a different ecosystem I might not do the bait.

Mint oil (works like moth balls but smells way better) and the bucket with baited roller above it. Way better than the traps because you can catch like 15 each night. Antifreeze not necessary unless it is winter. They just drown.

I soak a cloth in mint oil and then put it in a coffee can with holes in the plastic lid. Then every time I think about it I roll the oil around to soak the rag again. This lasts nearly forever.

I also do use one of those electronic devices under the hood when I park at the property. It makes really annoying sounds as well as intermittent strobe lights of different colors. I can’t say 100% it works but I have not had mouse damage to the wiring on my truck so far.

We have several of those plug in electronic rodent/pest deterrents (from amazon) down at the cabin (on 40 acres so PLENTY of pests!) we use them inside the house & basement and in the garage and I think there might even be some in the barn and so far we haven't seen anymore droppings since we started using them.

i do have mint oil i spray, but it seems to dissipate to quickly. i've done some odd brand smelly packet that the mice just chewed open and used for bedding. snap traps with peanut butter have been my best friend.
