Sidecar rigs?

Does anyone have much experience with sidecar rigs like the Ural 2wd motorcycles? I keep flirting with the idea of selling my two motorcycles that only have two wheels (and that I don't ride enough) and getting a used Ural. There's one for sale back in Oregon through a friend of a friend. He's upgrading to the latest model released from Ural.

Hmm...

I've ridden in a Ural sidecar. It was fun, but rough and uncomfortable. Definitely unique and cool.

No first hand experience here but they do look like a lot of fun. I once followed one up Old Fall River Road in RMNP. I could barely keep up with him. I could see the lady in the sidecar taking lots of pictures as they whipped through the switchbacks.

Are you on Adventurerider.com? There is a whole section devoted to hacks with lots of Ural chat. Personally, I think I would conclude that a conventional motorcycle is more fun to ride than one with a side car once the novelty wore off. But, if you can have both that'd be great.

Side cars seem super cool, but not sure about the practicality. Just seems kind of limiting, no single track for example, so not sure it really replaces either the truck or individual bikes really. But dang it they don't seem like fun.

I've had the same thoughts about practicality, use cases, and whatnot. Also fuel economy (35mpg if you're lucky). But it really looks fun!

I'm on ADV. I'll have to go check what's new in the sidecar hacks forum.

If only I had infinite time to ride all of the motorcycles and drive all the 4x4s that I want to...

Contact Scott Masingill via FB or at Toytec. He's big into them.

A couple years ago Cruise Moab was the same time as a organized Ural event. Scott was out on some pretty tough trails in Moab with his Ural.... It had a winch. Crazy stuff!
