Rubithon at Rubicon needs to be a bucket list event if you haven’t been yet. It’s awesome!
That said, it’s not newbie friendly. It’s relentless and never lets up till you reach observation point (running the trail east). It can be done with 33’s and full skids and a locker, but you’ll be dragging, a lot.
We did the trail Wednesday to Sunday.
Camped at Buck Island Lake for 2 days (wed, thur) and at rubicon springs for 2 days (fri, sat) On Thursday some of our group ran the RTF Loop. It’s a new section of trial that’s quite challenging.
The main event day is on Saturday, and it’s at the springs. They have hikes, gold panning, horse shoe tournaments, and an RC comp.
This year they had a band Friday and Saturday and on Friday night they had a bar with an option to get a 20 dollar, all you can drink wrist band. They also do a kids movie night on Friday. The movie this year was Minecraft.
Our group was 7 deep. Jimmy from snail trail, Richard in his 80, Brian Flynn in his solid axle Tacoma (all Cali guys I’ve become friends with thanks to Cruise Moab), Daniel in his first gen 4runner, Tim (my brother) in his solid axle Tacoma, Derek in his truggy and me in the 80.
Anyway here are some pics.
