I know that the battery welding would be something that many of us would love to know more about. Maybe you guys would be willing to give a set up demo at one of meetings? Or a recovery night meeting? Show us the equipment that's necessary, and maybe a couple tips on how to make it all work properly. And share your experience with it.

It sounds like it's a handy thing to know how to do.

I would love to, but I cant say im an expert at it. Ive only seen/heard it done before this trip, and it took us awhile to get it figured out and be ok at it. Unfortunately I was really getting a hang of it when I finished the last weld.

All I know is it's even more fun without a helmet. If you're going to carry the rods to do it with , at least throw in a dark plate from a helmet.

I think that would be a great thing to discuss at recovery night.

Adam did all the welding for our circumstances. At that point it's less about the experience, and more about getting the job done to the best of our abilities. Adam is a much better welder than I am.

Sunday 8/9 Fixer Day

We had a late dinner the night before. Emily and Megan made grilled cheese and tomato soup with mixed berry shortcake with whipped cream for dessert. We got the truck back together at about 12:30AM. We repositioned the truck and went to bed.

In the morning we got back to aspen and started making phone calls. By 1pm we had gotten all of the stars aligned. Adam and I decided to part ways for the day and meetup Monday in lake city. As luck would have it, Steve and Billy Graham were planning on meeting us in lake city on Monday morning as well.

Adam and Emily were going to Pearl Pass and I was headed to Steve's house in summit county. Adam and Emily graciously agreed to stay in cell range until we made it over Independence pass where it would become easier to contact Steve should trouble arise.

I got to Steve's about 4:00 and disassembled everything in prep for Billy Graham's arrival (he had the spare leafs). Steve and Amy were hard at work with the new garage. We had a few hiccups to overcome, but had it fully back together and ready for fun by 8:30pm.

Megan and I had planned to make cheeseburgers and corn on the cob for dinner at camp that night, so Megan and Amy tackled dinner while I played grease monkey.

We did a little packing, put a plan together for the morning over some beers and took much needed showers. The breakage only cost us 1 day...WAHOO!!

Monday 8/10--Back in Action!!!!!

We got up around 7am and got going at about 8a. Emily and Adam camped up on Schofield Pass. We made contact with them the night before to make sure they made it over pearl safely and to put our lake city plans together.

Our goal was to meet at our planned campsite on Engineer Pass.
Me made contact at about 1:30p (almost literally on the trail :D). We all decided it was too early to call it a day and instead decided to make it the longest day of the trip ha!

We traversed some of the most beautiful terrain in Colorado. We traversed the following trails to get to camp: Engineer Pass, Mineral Creek (Engineer to Poughkeepsi), Poughkeepsi Gulch, Hurricane Pass (to Gladstone), Kendall Mountain

we ate lunch at Capitol city and saw several mines and ruins along engineer. The scenery and challenge of Poughkeepsie made it a group favorite (I took the easiest possible route, but the others really gaver')!

We saw the damage and cleanup efforts from the gold king blowout. It was very eerie to be that close to it. Its even uglier in person! What a tragedy.

Our Goal was to camp on the south leg of county road 33 southeast of Silverton. We made it after 12.5hrs of driving (for Steve and I)!! It was worth every second, one of my favorite sites of the trip.

Tuesday 8/11-Camp Last Dollar

Alright, I'm back. I got a little busy and had to go to the rally which had an excellent turn out!

We had a bit of a late morning on Tuesday especially after the enormous dinner that Emily and Adam had provided. Chicken alfredo and a mean stir fry sent us all straight to sleep the night before.

We wandered around the area a bit. We discovered an old mine, an old train car, and we heard that there was a magic school bus somewhere near camp that we were unable to locate. We then ventured back down into Silverton, where we ate some great BBQ, did some grocery shopping and Steve was on a mission to find a folding poop chair.

Thee Pits was a great BBQ joint. It was in an old building with lots of charm. The owner was even gracious enough to let us fill up out water cans!
After lunch and a water refill, we geared down and headded up Black Bear Pass dunt dunt duuuuugh.

We ventured down into Telluride to a nice tavern for some much needed cold ones. We decided to eat dinner at a nice Mexican restaurant before heading up to camp on Last Dollar.

We setup camp in the pouring rain and mud. After all of the shenanigans, we had the ultimate BB gun shootout. Not a single beer can made it out alive!!

Photos: Headed back to Silverton from camp, telluride from black bear, Adam on tight switchback, then steve, Beers, camp
