Tech inspection is about to start for the final time. They’ve had their big meeting, and teams are kind of last minute packing, etc….

Not sure about that YB tracking, little confusing to me. Nancy driving and Jolene map reader, 1 sec driving 67kmh, next 0. Place in 4x4, all over the place?

Nancy is the navigator, and Shannon is the driver.

Today was a non-scored section, and they stop (on the non-Enduro sections) to mark the checkpoints. Some of them are a little way off the trail, and sometimes they are kind of hidden (like in an abandoned building, or behind a bush or something).

They are in the 4x4 class, because they have a transfer case. There is also an X-cross class for non 4x4 vehicles, like Subarus and Honda Pilots and stuff.

In the meantime, I and a few other spouses are “chasing” the rally (read: Staying 100+ miles away) in the desert. Great campsite last night.

The soak in the hot spring this morning was really nice after the hustle of getting Team 143 on the road yesterday.

Now I have to go to work for a few days, but I’ll see if I can get some of the media pictures of the Backwoods Barbies to post here. But I’m mostly instructed to say little (not that I know anything about how it’s going) while they are on the trail.

At finish line thus far Nancy/Sant and Shannon/Jos'e are in the 12th position and -33 points behind leader. Saw them at 31st at one time.
They did GREAT.

They really did.

They would have been tied for one spot higher if they had gotten a full 20 points on the Enduro (they got 17/20--so like 10 seconds of error I think), but 2nd standing amongst the rookies, and the other rookie team bested them by those 3 points on the Enduro.

I honestly don't know at this moment if they know how well they did. For all I know, Nancy is thinking that they didn't do real well, but only got a kind of decent score on the checkpoints.

I'm so impressed with how they did today. I believe it's going to push them to an earlier start time tomorrow, so Nancy will have less time to plot points and do math for the Enduro if that's the case.

(I'm currently watching the evening webcast--I've seen Maggie the GX quite a few times in the media)

The teams are camping out at Gold Hill, NV (note to self: I need to go there, lots of cool old trucks lying around).

I'm going to make a bold prediction: tomorrow morning's livestream will include a discussion about the volume of @SaintAgatha scream, because they are apparently in the middle of a tarantula migration or something. I've never heard her scream for a fuzzy spider, but I HAVE heard her scream for a mouse, and a snake. It is VERY loud. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Nancy and Shannon continue to frikken rock it. And in an amusing sidetone, they are just behind, and just ahead of the teams whose significant others I camped out with, and will rejoin for the last half of the rally.

I made it from Anchorage to the Mojave yesterday. Drove into the Mojave National Preserve last night. The Joshua Trees are really spooky at night with only the lights of the GX casting crazy shadows and stuff. Very cool.

7 trucks of spouses following/avoiding the rally now, and we might be joined by another tonight.

Here's our campsite at the Geer Mining Cabin, which is pretty neat!

bummer..don't know why soooo many people have to be idiots and can't wait a second or two for slower vehicles. we run in to that a lot here in wyoming. one person killed a motorcyclist because he was turning left and two cars behind him slowed for his turn. third car decided he couldn't wait and passed, hitting motorcyclist. people just don't think of what could be happening further ahead, just what is happening immediately ahead.

What a bummer! Glad y'all are relatively unscathed though. I don't think you'll find any disappointment from the peanut gallery here, because you put in such an effort to get to the event and then to actually do it (until disaster struck).

Going into the rally we had three goals: to have fun, finish, and remain friends. While we were not able to finish the rally, we created a million memories and remain close friends, and this is a win in our book!
This is a great outlook!

Fwiw @nuclearlemon my wife experience this same thing on her bicycle a few months ago. 25mph residential street, car about a full block behind her, making a left turn which she signaled ... the car apparently hit the gas and tried to catch up and blow past her on the left. She got mowed down and somehow walked away with just a little road rash on her elbow. Bike was fine too. The car took off of course.

An R1T finished first?! 😮
Yep!

They worked hard to earn that spot too! Badass! And one of them knew an awful lot about the feasibility of adding a snow plow to an R1T…
