OK, so I've got a low mile (like 100 miles or so) H55f that CDan sold, it was installed by one of the cruiser shops, who then discovered that something was wrong with it (sounds like 1st or 2nd gear synchros), who then returned it to CDan, who then sold it to me uber cheap. I also have a new input shaft on the way for it (so that it will mate to my 1HZ) that needs to go into it, so fixing what's wrong inside isn't a big deal.
I've never taken apart a transmission like this (big old semi transmissions yes, but those are constructed a little differently), so I'm wondering what the best way to go about this is. I see a few SSTs that look like basic bearing pullers in the FSM, but I'm not sure if there are others that are handy or that I'm missing.
Complicating things, I have a shop in NM, which is well equipped (and has my 20T press, bearing separators, an oven, etc...), but I'd really like to bring it up to my sister's garage so that I can work on it without having to travel all the way back to NM to work on it, but I'm not sure if that's a great idea because I've got a pretty basic set of tools and pullers in CO (until I build a new shop in a few years).
Question is: has anyone does this before? Any fancy tools that I might end up needing, or would I be allright taking it to a transmission shop (or Toyota dealer) to pull it apart if needed? On the plus side, the thing is new, so it should come apart pretty darn easily, and I won't know what part I need to replace until I get it apart, so there'll be a bit of a delay in the process too.
