But based on this quote:

Can the e lockers be wired like from scratch to avoid the factory wiring, and have the logic circuits be in the human head?

It sounds like Mike wants the truck to read his mind, and when he thinks he needs his axle locked, the actuator fires. ;)

You can't just switch it on or off. You need to also use the limit switches in the motor, otherwise you will burn the motor out.
Yes, I know that. These are different pin-outs but the logic is the same. It ain't rocket science, as they say.

Very Simple (not the best option):

First, put 37's on the white 80 and wheel it, and then it won't be pristine and you can stop messing around :D

In all seriousness, I would put a Detroit in the rear if you are going to do it. Auto lockers are practically non-existent in a AWD auto transmission rear axle application, just don't hammer the throttle in slow speed turns.

Of course if one of them is going to remain stock, you'll have to swap the axles because of your gears, in which case the lockers go to the Lexus.

Your answer is to swap the seats and wheel the white one - all you need is 37's, go poly axles, and if you are really going to get on it, lose that rear e-locker for the Detroit.

Lots of swap trouble for some paint blemishes, speaking of which, can be easily and permanently solved. :hill:

There is some good advice. Or simply buy new leather for the Lexus and have nice seats in both rigs. Probably cheaper, and they will look wa-a-ay nicer than anything seen in an 80 since it was new. Both Romer and Uncle Ben did this, and it is super sweet.

Mike...I had aussie lockers in my 40 w/ 37 inch tires and beat it to death. Not sure what others experience is with them, but it was definitely inexpensive for a locker, IIRC ~ $350.00? I think it is similar in design to the detroit? They weren't too bad on turns w/ wet pavement as long as I didn't get on the throttle (v8) and would probably be even less problematic in the 80 due to the power/weight difference. My 40 was fuel injected and with the short wheel base, it could definitely get out from under me. But the locker held up to a lot of punishment.

An Aussie locker is essentially a Lockrite. Not the same as a Detroit.

i hate detroits. go aussie...half the money, so if you do break an axle, it's cheaper when you have to replace your scarred and beat locker, also, considerably easier to service on the trail.

The really compelling reason for the Detroit is typically the underlying diff carrier strength, something you want to upgrade in a weaker half ton axle but perhaps a relative non-issue in the 80?

The idea now is to keep the 80 how it is and mod the LX. For around $3k now, I would build it a little differently:

2.5" medium coils
Slee Blue bushes
1" Roger Brown BL
10"-12" shocks
37" hummer tires on recentered Hummer wheels ($1200)
Detroit or Aussie locker
5.29's with free set-up
No front bumper, but with my patented winch plate with a MM 9000#
No rear bumper, Bob the rear frame 4", weld back in the crossmember, make cheap corner guards.
Deflared
And of course, do the SUT conversion with a nice canvas soft top including a plastic see-thru window. Remove sunroof and have button-on canvas top where it was.

Later:
Front ARB locker
Plumb steering box for hydro assist
Full Cage
