Per this, you can be sure that R134a sold at Walmart will be one of the first things to go. If you haven't stocked up on a dozen cans and a charging kit, you may be out of luck down the road when your A/C needs work. Even a '15 year phaseout' has to start somewhere, and consumer sales will be an easy target.

EPA rule to phase out gases used in refrigerators, coolants

WASHINGTON (AP) — In the first Biden administration rule aimed at combating climate change, the Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to phase down production and use of hydrofluorocarbons, highly potent greenhouse gases commonly used in refrigerators and air conditioners. The proposed rule follows through on a law Congress passed in December authorizing a 15-year phaseout of HFCs.

The irony of you posting this today is that we're leaving in a few minutes to take her Subaru in to the dealer for a recall. Seems the refrigerant R1234yf they started using a couple of years ago (one of the proposed R134a replacements) has caused condensers to corrode. The car's got about 28,000 miles on it and it's getting the A/C system rebuilt.

Good call, I ordered a few cans from my local Autozone as they have a deal going on. Cheap insurance and will likely need it in the next couple years with the aging parts on my LC.

Seems like a 15 year phase out was introduced already. The industry will need some time to figure it out, and maybe it will not take 15years.
So, it will be interesting to see how it goes.

Lowes (at least here in Colo Springs) is closing out some R134a - might be time to stock up.
