Sounds like you've made up your mind and want to get rid of it.

How is it mounted? That’s what I would be looking at. I literally beat the s**t out of mine for several years with one tons and 42’s and never had a break like that. An entire aluminum adapter plate cracking in half would have me thinking about how it’s all mounted. I would have no issues throwing used stuff back in there, you have something else going on to cause all that damage.

In the front, there are solid motor mounts (I think they're "bomb proof" mounts from Trail Gear): https://trail-gear.com/engine/bomb-proof-motor-mount-kit.html

The t-cases are both mounted to one of those belly pan t-case cross members that Trail Gear sells. https://trail-gear.com/catalog/product/view/_ignore_category/1/id/7197/s/crossmember-kit/

The mounts between the t-cases and that belly pan are the HD ones from Marlin Crawler: https://www.marlincrawler.com/armor/crossmember/crossmember-mount-hd

I checked all the mounts after this happened. Everything looks good. No signs of cracks. No missing hardware. But I'll check again tonight as I disassemble the t-cases to see if I'm missing something.

Two t-case mounts. That's how it was when I bought it and when I looked around online maybe five years ago to verify that was correct, it seemed that was.

I didn't realize there was supposed to be pictures. I don't do Instawhatever but figured out a way to extract the photos directly from the links.

Holy heck, never seen a Marlin do that.

There's also a video if it dumping fluid when I got off the highway on Instagram.

I saw the video but thought the pictures were plenty explanatory. Are bearings seized?

No all the bearings are in great shape. The bearing retainer plate on the adapter plate is bent. Some minimal wear on a few of the gears but nothing crazy.

I'll do a big photo dump with explanations of what we're looking at in a second. Might take a few minutes to contextualize everything.

Well maybe it's not going to allow me to attach anymore? I'm getting a "you may only attach 20 files" error on the new reply. @Hulk ?

EDIT: And I'm not sure why it isn't actually showing the photos, either. Forum hiccup?

Okay it seems to be letting me do images again... carrying on...

View of the rear of the Marlin Crawler dual t-case adapter plate.

View of the front of the rear t-case. Note the aluminum shavings or chunks or whatever to the left of the lower bearing. Again, no idea where they're coming from.

Here's the money shot.

Is that the serial number maybe? Or a part number? Or some casting ID?

1613867548586.png

Looking into the rear t-case. Small blessing that the 4.7:1 gears are still in good shape. All bearings looked great. No signs of damage to the rear t-case.

Assembly associated with the output shafts. Everything looked good here. And notice all the gear oil on the table. It was all pretty clear and clean-looking.

The rear t-case and output shaft assembly.

1613867691553.png

This is where it starts to get strange. Check out the aluminum on the speedo gear on the rear output shaft. It appears to have come in contact with the rear output shaft housing? Or something.

The whole output shaft gear-train assembly is just slightly... wobbly? The bearing looks good and feels good but it all was just a little wobbly. Maybe the plate that retains the bearing also got bent like the one on the Marlin Crawler dual transfer case adapter? It didn't look bent when I took it out though. Maybe that's normal slop?

1613867822828.png

Like seriously wut. No damage to the plastic speedo gear though.

1613867857641.png

You can see where it was chewing at the housing. Looks like it only chewed right when the failure happened or else I would expect to see a lot more horror here.

1613867898207.png

This oil passageway was a bit bent but I think that might have happened as I took apart the rear t-case case and output shaft assembly.

1613867957268.png

The whole thing splayed out like some mad science experiment.

1613867999173.png

Here's a better view of the warping on the teeth in the front t-case. Really doesn't look bad to me. The main contact face on the teeth looks good.

Another view of the mess.

That's all the photos I've got.

I know a guy that has an R151 with an fj60 split case on it if this could help. Tough tranny and tcase.

Thanks for the offer! Would that mount up to a 22RE? Any chance he's out in California? I'm in Monterey these days.

I'm thinking the lowest cost route forward would be to get an entire t-case and output shaft assembly from a junk yard, a new adapter plate (maybe from Advanced Adapters since they seem the cheapest), and use those parts plus these parts to reconstruct my 💩📦?

And I've got no idea why the one post won't show the photos. Looks like it won't even let me see the attachments now. @Hulk any ideas? 😬

Just some guy on the internet, so take it for what it's worth.

I have always been told and heard that the motor and tranny mounts needed to be of the same material in order to work the way the system is supposed to. Rubber or poly or whatever, but don't mix and match because it will add stresses to the drivetrain bits when each piece is moving slightly more or less than the other piece when subjected to the same amount of force. You mentioned that the motor and tranny mounts were Trail Gear and the rearmost mount was a Marlin piece. Where they the same material?

Also, if I was Marlin Crawler, which I ain't, I would do a whole lot to try to keep that picture from being spread all over the 4x4 world and make sure you were a happy customer. I don't know if you have heard from them, but I bet they would like to see how their piece failed. Because for whatever reason, that adapter plate broke and you are living with the consequences and "you can buy another one if you're quick when we get them back in stock" is shitty.

Best of luck getting this figured out
