A jet engine exploded over my house today. Closest debris I could find was about 200ft from my doorstep.

Wow I saw that on the news. Heard they called a plane having "engine troubles"

That’s wild! I actually noticed a super low flying 777 around 1pm heading into DEN and thought it was strange. I realized later it was the same plane! Really crazy stuff and so glad there were no injuries and the pilot made a safe landing.

The video of the engine on fire is worth seeking out. Glad you didn't get clobbered by falling debris, @jps8460 !

These photos are amazing. You have no idea how big those engines are when you see them on the plane.

Pilots mayday call is worth listening to... pretty good communication and handled it without any issues. Pretty amazing how safe it is to fly.

I was in the garage and heard the boom. Went outside to look around and saw the plane climbing away from a small cloud of smoke. It was definitely leaving a trail of smoke behind it. It disappeared in the clouds before it made the turn back to DIA. Not sure if any of the fans in the engine came apart, if they did, the containment housing worked pretty well.

It’s missing blades in some of the photos. I wonder if a blade was cracked Or it ingested something on take off or soon after.

Modern air safety is indeed amazing... to survive the failure and fly well in spite of it is a feat.
I wonder if that guy gets to keep the nacelle front ring thing as a keepsake or for scrap?

Honestly, I'm not sure if the flight deck crew knew that much about it. My airplane (the one I flew last night has PW4000 engines, just a smaller version of the one on the 777 that was UA328) we'd have gotten an engine fire indication, and maybe felt the vibration in the airframe--but engine failures are pretty much non-events. Heck, in my plane we don't even have to tell ATC if we have an engine failure, we press a button to tell the FMC that we are down to 2 engines, and then see if we have the fuel to continue to our destination. We typically have the performance to take off full of fuel and cargo for Europe, lose an engine, and keep going. Two engine planes like the 777 are required to land at the nearest suitable airport if they have an engine failure though, even if they maybe could keep going.

Pretty crazy to see the parts raining down on Denver though! Glad you weren't hurt by it Jackson!

Dang Jackson. That was close. It was impressive to hear how calm the pilots and the tower were. To the point of DanS the planes are designed to be able to safely operate on one engine. It's part of the testing they go through. It amazes me how over engineer planes are.
