Not sure how you would weld a washer on the front one that appears to be bent

They don't stick out below the flush point. Looks like a lot of rust in there. Hitting it with PB Blaster

Try to fill the nut with weld, and transfer as much heat down the bolt as possible. The heat from the welding helps break the rust loose and helps out with the removal.

Thanks Kurt. Again I don't have a welder or any skills in that area. I would need some help if someone has the time over the next few weekends

I would be happy to lend a hand, Ken. I don't have a garage, but if you would swing by my place some weekend when the weather permits, I'll crawl around the ground and see what I can do for you...

Drill it as close to center as you can and go up in bit size until you can retap them. You usually end up with a half moon of bolt and it falls out leaving the threads in tact.

X2 on this, along with the PB blaster (I use Liquid wrench, just as good in my experience). I also use left handed drill bits, they will often grab the remaining fastener and back it out saving time from retapping the female thread.

Ken, looks like Friday or Saturday's weather looks pretty decent. If you're free, PM me and I'll give you my address. We can try to get those broken bolts removed.

Thanks Kurt for the big assist today. THE BEST THING about this club is the people and Kurt helped me big time welding nuts on the broken bolts until the bolts came out

Now to get a 1.25 tap so I can put the new bolts in. One step at a time

That looks pretty rusted. Another good tip is to buy a Dremel and diamond bits from harbor freight. They chew through anything even an easy out, ask me how I know.

That 1.25 tap might be hard to find. I would check at Ace hardware.

Like others suggested, I would just pull the bumper off and then knock those nuts off. They are pretty cheap. You could just put a 1/4 plate in there that is tapped to any thread you like.

Thanks Ken!

The bolts threads I removed were pretty messed up. My guess is from the impact they took. Funny how wheeling it doesn't cause damage, but the parking lot does...There's a whole new level of danger when you use your truck as a grocery getter...

okay, found a 12M 1.25 tap at Advanced Autoparts in south Parker

Tapped the holes and put the new bolts in. Took the stock bolts out of the other one and found them to be significantly shorter (face palm)

It should have been obvious to use longer bolts with these thicker anchor points

I used M12 1.25 45MM 10.9 strength for the replacement bolts

I am all good now. Thanks again Kurt

Looks good guys!

If you're interested the Orchards Ace up here has 12mm in 12.9 grade. They have a store in Edgewater and one in Highlands Ranch. I assume so would AAA Metric in Denver.
