We had a safe and very enjoyable run down Jenny Creek today. We had 6 rigs, @GTBradley , @Parksnwrecks, @Curly and family, @250000yota and family, and @Old40Dog. We headed up Rollins Pass at about 9:30, drove up to the Forrest Lakes trail head and had lunch before heading to the Jenny Creek Trail.
Jenny Creek was great. Not very busy so it was a smooth run down. We picked up some trash but not much and only saw a couple of by passes that might need to be addressed.

Thank you all for coming out today!

First-timers on this trail, and what a great time of year to be out there! Far and away the busiest trail we've experienced away from Moab.
A plastic connector that lost it's connecting ability on a negative battery wire was the only trouble in the group, and that was quickly solved.
We checked the firepits we saw on the trail and were rewarded every time with some treasure or another, but not enough to fill a bag.
Great day, great company as always.

Thanks for making it up there folks! We couldn’t make it up yesterday but we’re headed up today. Will be on 146.460 if anybody else is near.

How was the post and cable up near Yankee Doodle? What’s the situation around Jenny lake lately have the barriers stayed there? Was the gate to the Boulder wagon road closed? Lastly how was the winch anchor?

All very good questions. Those are good items to put on a checklist for anyone leading the run, and are probably best before the run. We might also consider designating a trail leader before we go to avoid confusion. Rob stepped up and led the run yesterday, as there didn't seem to be anyone in charge in attendance.

Have a safe run today! For the invite you extended, what time are you going up?

The barriers at Jenny Lake were still in good shape and still in place. We didn't drive to the gate but a hiker reported it as closed. The posts and cable were all still there as best I could tell. A few of the posts are at various screws but mostly upright.

Here are a few more pics. The valley was beautiful, not quite peak leaf change but very soon.

I just want to throw out a thank you to everyone who was there, this was my first trail run as a Rising Sun member, and you all were so welcoming and fun to go up with.

I snapped some photos of the bypasses that may need attention but I did not mark them on my GOS tracking on On-X. Really wish I had. It was very cool to see that our trail maintenance sign was up!

I’d also like to echo @Curly in that I think it would be best to designate the trail lead prior to the trip, and maybe come up with a checklist for these inspection runs.

I’d also like to know if there is any plan with the Forest Service to remove the fallen vehicles from the side of Rollins Pass?

Again though, thanks so much for the welcoming attitude! My family had a great time. My dad tagged along, as the last time he’d done Rollins Pass was approximately 1981 in a 2wd Datsun pickup with a bed mounted camper. He was so excited to head back up there and was very chatty with his experiences of being back up there and his last trip.

Post and cable in several spots definitely needs some attention but most of it is in decent shape. Our signs around the trail beginning and end are still there and the kiosk is OK. The winch anchor looks good. The gate to the bould wagon road was locked.

There is a big bypass around the Jenny Lake buck and rail (mila is walking around it).

Next time we do a work day we should have an agenda and try to address some of the issues. In year previous we’ve hauled up concrete to fix fallen posts and done some route control where feasible. Thanks to those who were able to make it up and do work this season. I’d lead but have limited time to devote these last several years.

Again thanks to those who made it up.

So someone made a bypass?!?
I don’t get it. I’ve done 99% of this trail in 2wd.

It looks more like areas to pass other folks. We had a discussion up there, I was always under the impression that this trail was supposed to be run top to bottom, but we had multiple points where we passed folks coming up towards us.

Unfortunately, It's been so many year's since I've been up there I don't remember the conditions then compared to now. I had expected someone with knowledge of the items to be completed to be on site for the day to help us out so we could be more productive and accomplish some good work.

The bypass is up near Jenny Lake, above Yankee Doodle Lake. It was likely created by people who want to camp near the lake with their vehicles.

This one needs to be closed. The others on Jenny Creek are more debatable as to purpose/need.
