@nakman I agree Tim. All of the stuff I do comes from a personal need - either the thing I want doesn’t exist or it isn’t the solution I want. The one above for example, would take modification to fit into other vehicles. I don’t like the amount of stability I’m seeing for rocking and rolling on trails. Etc, etc.

Prototype three is on the way.

So couple things…

If you make it out of stainless or aluminum you wouldn’t need to coat it. Also the way that folds you can take the two edges that don’t meet and make those into a bend and the pop rivet it all together. No welding, no sharp corners, easy assembly.

As @MonPetiteShoe pointed out, yes there are several 80’s that revolve around the shop. I’m sure we could work something out if you want to test something/bounce ideas! 🍻

Like Corbet says I’d skip the strap also and offer a common hole pattern. The race extinguishers come with brackets made to hold. Also id maybe do a short stitch weld to join the tops of the tray section. Maybe modify the pattern so the tops of the tray at those open seams have some interlocking features to allow for easier welding and give a more complete joint when you do the brake work. There may even be a clever way to design it so the weld isn’t needed honestly. That’d be best.

Lastly I have a mount for the 80 that has a tray (wits end mount) and the tray is literally a junk drawer. I keep my Phillips in the door pocket so I’d think about deleting it honestly. I get that’s what you want on yours but maybe folks just really want a mount and not a junk drawer.

@rover67 I hear you, but I also deal with customer inquiries every day and I know that if I design this around one particular extinguisher I will get inundated with emails saying “can you make it for this one or that one?” or “I didn’t know I had to buy this other mount!” and many other things. The intent with the straps is so that it works for everybody and so that it’s dummy-simple to attach a bottle to it.

@JohnnyP I’ve mentally committed myself to stainless. Powder coat was about aesthetics and not dollars, and pretty much every single person I’ve asked would prefer the thing to look “raw”. I need to work through the three variants on 60 Series trucks and then I’ll get it touch about coming by to look at some 80s!

Jim here's one way to get rid of that sharp crack in front... just make the sidewall come from the front lip of the box.

You could even toss on another tab for a through bolt, if you don't want to do any welding at all...

@nakman I like it! Unfortunately I think that would exceed a maximum dimensional capability of the fab place I use. They’re significantly cheaper enough that I’d like to stick with them. I’ll ping them and find out for sure though.
