It shouldn't matter who looks at this post. Slee off road will never get my business after the way they treated me. It is a shame that Joshua at Crawlertech is or has retired because he truly provided a great service. I'm sure the parts you had them install were new and purchased from them as well.

Fair enough. Just so I understand, Slee inspected the situation and then refused service. No actual work was done, is this correct?

I was referred to Japanese Auto Service by Slee for some steering work I was wanting to get done. I haven't gotten the truck back yet but the service and level of knowledge has been great. They are ok installing some 3rd party items unlike some other shops around.

Just to shed some clarity on this for those reading this. Steven brought in a used E-locker v6 differential and a used 4cyl differential with 5.29's already installed. We were asked if we would swap the used 5.29's to the other differential. After our guys looked at it, we chose not to take on the work. There are a variety of reasons for this, mostly that we don't install used gear sets onto different carriers. If we take on the work, we have to be able to stand behind our work.

What would your response have been if we were 4 hours into the job and we were not able to produce a reliable or acceptable gear mesh pattern? Or had we been able to set it up, and the differential was installed and was noisy. All of which can and has happened with setting up used gear sets. I know we can preface this with comments like to guarantee would be provided etc etc, however from experience I know that once a customer has paid, those disclaimers are forgotten quickly when the outcome is not as expected.

You went out of your way to also post a bad Google review on this. I do not see how my employees wronged you when we simply decided not to accept the work. They spent the time, looked at your parts and then made the call that we would not take on the work. We did not charge any money and in discussing this situation with them, I am confident that they would have treated you with respect. As a business we have the right not decline work when we feel it is outside the scope of what we normally do and be able to stand behind our work.

We work hard to have a good reputation, and when we get into situations like this, I take the time to investigate and see what we can learn from it and also where we can improve our customer service. Feel free to reach out to me and explain why you felt that you were not treated fairly.

I did post a negative review on google. Slee off road made it quite clear that they did not want anything to do with my parts or my business. You and your "tech" told me that it couldn't be done. Both of you were wrong. It was accomplished with a standard install kit. The gears and locker are installed in my rig and working great. Maybe you should look into providing better customer service to people who dont have a cruiser or a new Tacoma.

Steve,

I was not personally involved. My staff told you that we have not put a 4 cylinder ring and pinion into a v6 e-locker carrier and that it might require different shims / or an adapter bearing(s). They would have had to do the research to determine what parts are needed. In addition, they did state that we don't set up differentials with used parts (there are a few exceptions). At that point my staff made the decision that we would not take on the work and this was conveyed to you. This decision has nothing to do with what vehicle you drive. It is a pure business decision, same as when someone calls and asks for a suspension for a FJ40, and we tell them that is also not something we do.

I am sorry if you are unhappy that we did not take on your work, but I still fail to see why that warrants a negative review if we actually did spend the time to look at your parts, and politely declined to take on the work.

I was there. They stated that it couldn't be done even after I explained how to do it. They never said that they didnt install used parts. If they would have said that all would have been well

They stated that it couldn't be done even after I explained how to do it.

I wasn't there, but reads like the situation was a little combative by the end of the visit. Seems like there is never a winner when the customer starts telling the vendor how to do their job.

Steve, I have spoken both to Amory and Brian and your version of the events is not at all what transpired. I have already explained that. At this point I have to let it go, but honestly to perpetuate this idea that we wronged you in any way and that we don't know what we are doing is simply absurd.

Neither of them got the idea that you were this upset after you visited the shop. Brian has done thousands of differentials, the bulk of which when he worked in a speedshop in the midwest. That was one of the main reasons we hired him. He simply had not done what you wanted to do and offered to do research to see what would be involved and / or if any special parts were required.

I also confirmed with Amory that Brian and himself expressly explained why we do not set up differentials with used parts and what the potential pitfalls of doing so is.

My question is thus, if you knew exactly how to do it, why did you not do it yourself? It was only a month ago that you posted this
https://risingsun4x4club.org/xf/threads/difference-in-gears.27300/ yet now you profess to being able to tell us how to do the work. Brian can set up diffs in his sleep, however taking on a job without verifying what exactly is needed is not something he, or any of my sales staff would do. I can't imagine your frustration had we taken on this job and we accidentally quoted a bearings/part cost that was wrong because we assumed we knew exactly what part to use, and proved to be mistaken.

Amory even offered that he would speak to Ben (who has more experience in the earlier Toyota differentials) the next day and find out if he knew about a shop that would possibly take on your work.

I have to state again, it is ANY business'es prerogative to chose what work they take on. We did not cost you money, in fact we spent our time (which translates to money) to meet with you and look over the job. Two of my employees spent time with you and offered advise and additional help if needed. We did all this without charging any money, yet you feel wronged in the situation.

Sorry to the OP to trash your thread on the Aussie locker install.

Simple. I dont have the tools to set up the gears. Not so much wronged as just wanting to let people know about the experience I had. As the original poster wanted to know where to get a locker installed

It’s seems to me that you could hardly call it an experience if no services or money was exchanged...

Yes. Yes it did. There are plenty of reputable shops around town that work on Yotas as well as gears.i just dont care for Slee. If they have a problem with someone voicing they're opinion then to damn bad this is America

So anyway. A couple years later. Any shops that will install an Aussie locker for me?
Great little half-day project to do yourself…

Sorry, been away from the internet for a few days. My level is intermediate, but I hate having a vehicle sit in my garage in pieces. Would rather just have some one knock it out for me so that I don't have to hear the "when are you ever going to be done with the truck???"

its a 1997 LX450, so yeah, full floater.
You mean you don’t want to be like Andy? Lol 😂

Keep in mind I’ve bumped a very old discussion looking to further it

Filthy motor sports in Boulder won’t touch it

Checking with johns 4x4

Edit johns wont install a lunchbox locker because “TheYr3 sO UnSaFE iN wINTeR”

Looks like I’m either doing it my god damn self or doing without. (That means I’m doing without)

Dude the answer is staring you right in the face! Ask that gentle genius @skennedy82 to do it! LoL
