People's Soviet Socialist Republic of California,
I'd move there. I love that area.
I like how you can go from hardcore desert to alpine environment in two hours. You can choose the exact climate you want. Lots of interesting companies moving into the area, too.

Texas taxes are a big negative. Here is my thoughts as far as heat as I've given this a lot of thought: Denver gets really hot I think-then you have the forest fire smoke from California and nearby forest fires in the summer which adds to the heat and makes summer really rough. I've lived in some humid areas before and have kind of learned to put up with it unless it's really deep south. I've been looking pretty extensively by staying in places for a while to really check it out.
Have you taken a look at the area around Reno?
I was under the impression it was basically another California town but only technically in Nevada?? I've never been there though

All I see is humid, more humid and hot AF!
Definitely cheaper though.
Property taxes in Texas are high like Willie Nelson and Snoop Dog combined!
This, property taxes in Texas are no joke, the republicans keep saying they are going to address it and never do a damn thing. Also stay out of Austin, it's not going to be any different than here on cost of living or culture. Also with Notyourmom on the humidity. That's one of the reasons I moved out of Texas.

Property taxes are the main way Texas gets their money since they have no state income tax. So they're not going down anytime soon.

Yep.
All my friends down there “we don’t have income tax”.
Me “the state still gets what they need. Your property taxes are astronomical”!

If you live in a cheaper area of Texas it seems income taxes won't be as big of a deal. If your in a expensive area like Austin it will really hurt. I believe some areas of Texas has emissions testing too right?

Once a vehicle is 25 they don’t test emissions anymore.
I think they still do a safety inspection though.
Never emissions on diesels ether.

This! Every locality needs to do the basics...roads, schools, public safety, etc. How they fund them isn't apples to apples but they will get funded. Housing costs, wage scales and job opportunities can vary widely but tax rates, all in, are likely pretty much a wash.
