I did spring for the 8900 and got them to lock in the price on thurs. Really glad i did as the prices all went up today when i went to pick up an antenna...... the radio went up another $35

Now deciding where to mount it is the next step in the process..
If i get it in by Monday, at least i will be able to practice listening in :D

When i told my bro i wanted to "ragchew" he laughed really hard. i guess it does sound funny....

Neil, Did you get an HT yet? You might want one of these. I use it with my VX-7R for the Monday night get together. I've still got extra twin lead, if you want some.

Hello Chris, no HT yet, just the 8900, quad band antenna, and mount... May ends up getting another smaller 2 meter antenna for the rougher trails as the quad band is not small. mounting it to the rear hatch similiar to yours, but may need to build a plactic cradle for it to sit in while folded so it does'nt beat itself against the window..

Now i think i may need to look into dual batteries for all the extra stuff i want. morphing towards the "uncle ben" style of functional pimpin....

The FT-8900 does 10m, which like Wes mentions is not available to tech licensees. But it only does 10m FM and that's a pretty big limitation, so I'm not sure how useful it really is. I mean a general will want to do AM on 10m for sure. Personally, I can't see it being worth the money and would probably do the FT-857D instead. But the bump in price from a 8800 to a 8900 is pretty small, so I guess having 6m and 10m FM might be worth it for $50.

ah yeah. I forgot about the mobiles in the HF list. Those are $. One of the reasons I went straight 2m for now. Work into this, see what I use, what I don't, understand things more then decide what I need. Then again Neil went straight for a loaded 80 with a supercharger. He doesn't mess around.
