Thank you everyone for coming out and making today rad! We had a bit of confusion at the beginning and just missed @Crash and @MarkEva at the start of trail and departed with 8 in tow. Thankfully we were able to regroup at the water crossing to finish with all 10 trucks! We assumed someone would drop out, life happens. We were extremely nobody did as it was a great day to be on trail.
We’re stuck behind a slow moving group for quite a while, they eventually let us pass. Otherwise trail traffic was pretty minimal, a slightly cranky group of SxS, that first thought we were with MHJC. Then a little vocal about having to pass the slow brigade. All in all minus the MHJC comment we made short work of things.
A lot more water trail than I thought considering conditions this year. Pleasantly surprised, wildflowers were popping! Unfortunately I wasn’t able to snag pictures. Saw yarrow, monkshood, columbines, purple asters, red indian paintbrush, one of our orchid species and a few more than I didn’t know. A few little stream waterfalls that I love.
At lunch we did run into MHJC as they were wrapping up lunch giving us a ton of room to park. Kind words with exchanged as we wished them safe travels for the rest of the day. Lunch was fantastic and Rupert ate his fair share of watermelon with me. At this point we finally caught up with @Crash and @MarkEva as they had a lunch before the turn for cooney flats. Due to the slow moving group at the first half of trail we just missed them entirely till this point. We were happy to finally become a whole group again.
After this point we didn’t encounter any more trail traffic aside from a friendly couple in a smaller SxS. I had let them pass me to work through the group and I had become trail gunner. They were kind enough to pull off and let me rejoin the group. No other good opportunities arose for them to filter through ours after they passed me. I thought that was extremely kind of them. They let me know they were in no hurry. They wished us several times to have a great day and safe travels.
It’s much harder to take pictures as a driver. For the first half I was also second in line which further limited my subject matter. Outside of course my trusty little copilot Dr. Rupert. This was his best trail yet! We had run slaughterhouse during the 4th, he did not do well. I was little worried about how he would do this time. He decided he was just going to snuggle up in the passenger seat with some of my cooling fabric, that I kept out for him and snoozed as best as he could. So very proud of my little doggy. He even splooted, which I didn’t think was very comfortable, he’s still in that jello bones stages. So what do I know?
