I know many are gearing up for CM, but we are working on a few weekend camping plans this summer and we could use some help with a few ideas. Looking for a new spot for a Memorial Day weekend family camping trip. Hoping to get away from the front range crowds and willing to drive probably 6-ish hours. Our plan would be to drive out Thursday afternoon (maybe stopping along the way) and head back later Monday. Dispersed camping and off-road trailer friendly. Would be nice to sit in front of a campfire also, so looking if we stick in CO we’ll be looking for counties with limited if any fire restrictions.

if anyone has any suggestions. I’d really appreciate any ideas, tracks, gps coords of great camp sites, etc. Thanks!

The location of our Wyoming campsite when we all went to watch the eclipse was excellent.

That was a great spot. What would weather be like up there in late May?

Im sure it’ll still have tons of snow, but there’s a few really nice camping spots on McAllister Gulch. Minturn/camp hale area.

Not sure how big of a trailer you got. Taken my 17’ one up to an area I really like. La Jara reservoir state campground, that should meet your wants. They take 18 wheelers, cow transports up there except last section, very desolate never had more than 2 other campers in the general are. Fishing sucks however if that would be in the plans, there are some pretty easy off road trails in the area, that are quite scenic.

Nice. That’s a great suggestion. We have a SoCal 459 Crawler teardrop, so we’re pretty much good on most trails.

Same place, may 20-22, 2019. Weather changes are to be expected. Only one camping there that year. An almost annual event for me, when I need some peace and quiet.

I’ve got that spot marked down for a trip this summer. Thanks for sharing those pics.

We gathered a few others tagging along on our trip this weekend and decided to head out to the Ghost Town Run camp site from a few years ago just outside Pitkin. We’re heading out Thursday as soon as we pick the kids up from school and hoping to at least find a good spot in that area before the masses show up on Friday.
