BRD March meeting cancelled. Still worth a read!!!
All,
Below are the notes and updates from the last meeting that may need some verification. With these unseasonably warm and dry temperatures, coupled with summer hiring efforts – we are busier than normal right now balancing priorities (see recreation program updates below) I believe that I have the highlights that should keep the conversation going. I am proposing to cancel this month’s meeting.
NOTE: Please review below. If there is follow up that need to occur for the Adopt-A-Road Projects, please coordinate directly with Jared Smith at:
jaredasmith@fs.fed.us.
Let’s plan 4/27 for the next meeting. Please come prepared with any new projects and/or project info for the representative areas below.
Per Matt -
District Recreation Program Updates:
Ø We are now in a Stage 1 Fire Restriction (I will send out that press release to the group after this email). The recreation program spent the weekend posting restriction signs, though we have more signs to post. Any free time that we have this week will be strengthening this signage.
Ø We are getting our seasonal hiring certificates and will all this week doing reference checks, interviewing, etc to gear up for the summer season.
Ø We now have zero field staff for recreation operations and maintenance (this is our normally a slower time of year). The duties are being absorbed by Jared and I.
Planning:
Ø Magnolia Non-Motorized Trails – we are preparing for the public implementation meeting. The meeting will be in late April, a press release should be sent this week for the details. I will send it directly to this group as well.
Ø Lefthand Motorized Roads and Trails Project (what we all call Lefthand OHV – has been entered into the SOPA (may not show up on website until April 1st):
http://www.fs.fed.us/sopa/state-level.php?co. Our plan is to have a proposed action out to the public by summer.
Training:
Ø Chainsaw Training – No tangible updates, though I am working with our Fire program to get a class for employees and a few volunteers. I will prioritize my employees first, but we are looking at how to include a volunteer program. Right now it’s still pretty complicated, so allow me some time to work through this. It may not be viable for us to do in 2017.
