I have been lurkin on the threads about 80's with great interest, and although Nakman is definitely an innovator when it come to mods I think Mike has shown us all how much he puts into every project no matter what it is. I also appreaciate the way he and Kevin have documented some of the mods recently with pointer's to mud threads.

What i need to find out is:
- if either Kevin and Mike still have the 1n4001 diode's for the "autoup" mod. I would like to give it a shot.
- more about the Temp Guage mod. would probably change a few of the lights at the sametime (not as many as Mike, but a few).
- more info about the rear seat recline that Nakman was talking about
- what is the blue fan clusth mod?
- sunroof drain mod ?
- details about the Starter contacts i always hear people complaining about
- what are people using for extended breathers on these beasts?
- lift recommendations and gears (pro/cons)

Starter Contacts. The starter contacts when they get old can short on keeping your strating cranking and the only way to shut it off is to pull the battery cable, So a lot of people do the PM to spend $25 on new contacts and a plunger

The sunroof drains can get clogged so some clean the drains, some mod the hoses. I personally haven't done anything here. You know when you need it when your ceiling leaks after a good rain

These are great! I have so much to learn about the new rig, but really like driving it.
I was having problems searching on Mud earlier, thought it might be the firewall at work.
I guess i need to find my old mud passwordand quitjust lurking without signing on...

Best way to search on Mud is to click search in the masthead and the select Advanced (Not the google one on the bootom of the search window)

Select the 80 section. Type your keywords in and then select in title only first to get fewer hits, then expand if needed.

BTW- You will notice that a lot of the FAQs were put together either by or with the help of Rising Sun Club Members. Robbie and Christo both helped with the OME lift item. nakman is famous for his snakster

Since you have a supercharger, you may wish to add a second temp gauge rather than the temp gauge mod. You will get hotter than a stock truck and have less time to react so a more accurate gauge is recommended

Just FYI on these...An 80s mod day has been discussed for some time in the future to complete both of these...Somewhere there is a thread on this and the general consensus is we all wanted to wait for warmer weather.

Not sure if this will happen before or after CM08 but last I heard, between Kevin and Mike they have enough diodes to complete the mod on all of the 80s in the club

It does have a 2.5" lift and 33" tires. Christo, you are probably more familiar with the truck than just about anyone, and it is a great truck. I actually need to come out to see you for some new items for her.

I think having a seperate guage does make sense I really liked the pillar guages.... in addition it would also be nice to correct the original guage to eliminate the "dead spot"...

Having the temp gauge being true linear is more than accurate enough for a tractor engine!

I have a whole drawer full of 1N400X diodes. You're welcome to as many as you need.

FYI:

1N4001 = 50 PIV (Peak Inverse Voltage)
1N4002 = 100PIV
1N4003 = 200PIV
1N4004 = 400PIV

A 1N4002, 3 or 4 can always be substituted in a 1N4001 application, they are all rated at 1 amp forward current. You'll typically see around .6 to .7 volts forward drop. In applications where that much drop can't be tolerated, you have to use Schottky diodes.

Thanks Jeff.. Today I ordered up the parts for the starter rebuild, and the belts "Burt" did not have in stock. took it for a drive today, and it is definitely a cushy ride compared to the fj40. i have to say i do miss the manual transmission, but it it still a kick to drive..
