Does anyone have a chain link tool I could borrow? This is what I'm thinking of getting, but if someone has one it will keep me from buying a tool that will sit around and collect dust.

I have a smaller blue one but using it right now. Been meaning to buy that big bad boy there. $75 is a good price. It’s $120 on tirechain.com and $95 for the blem version.

but like Dean said use vice grips or a vice and a hammer and chisel and you can spread the links apart and clamp them back together.

Adam, just buy it. You will regret not having it that first time you break a cross link and it is flapping against the side of your truck and you’re out there in the cold trying to fix it.

That is a good point. I usually do not have a bench vise in the truck. Now I'm gonna look around for chain pliers.

I plan to shorten the ladders by two links on each one per side. Plus shorten the main chains. So I think I will get plenty of use out of it the first time I use it.
