Perfect. I just dumped a couple of gallons of Delo into my 40 last week 'cause they were out of the Rotella.

From a background in racing, I ran comps break-in adative after a build with radical lobe profiles and a Ford lifter where it is absolutely critical.......since my 2f rebuild I've ran rotella-t. I polished my journals to the low side of the tol. (ie. larger clearances). I'll e sure and let you guys know when using rotella-t fails me.

I looked for and could not find any Accel at wally world or at Carquest so I ended up buying another bottle of Rislone ZDDP additive.

weird. i've had no issues finding it. commerce city, tower road and stapleton all carry it.

I just bought a whole bunch of Ace Hardware private label at $2 a quart on sale, it is normally around $4.50 or so. I figure for that kind of discount, I can justify the $6 a bottle for the Rislone additive.

Now, with more zinc....

Thread resurrection again. The 10w-40 Accel oil bottle at Walmart has been revised again and now says 'Contains at least 1100ppm Zinc'. Still $2.67/quart.

The Evergreen Walmart doesn't even sell quarts any more, they've gone to the big jugs.

My objection to ZDDP in a bottle is that it's typically $15/bottle and there's no indication of how much ZDDP is in a particular formula. It's also not widely sold at auto parts stores (at least O'Reilly, Autozone, Pep Boys). If you have found a good locally-sold ZDDP additive, please tell us where you got it.

I'm going to try this from NAPA. Doesn't say how much zinc is in it. It's about $11/bottle

Stuff's a little hard to come by detail on. At least they give a general dilution of 5 to 7 quarts.

But I wonder what that ends up compared to Mobil1, Rotella or if it assumes a certain API starting point. Everyone's engine would likely benefit from adding ZDDP but some oils already do OK and adding a lot more will foul catalytic converters. I use Rotella Triple-T 10W30 in my 22R-E, which needs zinc but has a cat. This stuff has tested around 1200 PPM, since it's API SM and GF-4 rated it's not subject to ultra low ZDDP requirements. I use Syntec 5W40 with the VW 502/505 rating for the Jetta. That oil is an API SL and that spec is for 1000 PPM ZDDP.

FWIW, in case anyone is trying to find good oils, anything 40-weight isn't subject to to CAFE restrictions for oil additives, so those are usually the ones with the very high zinc contents.

I haven't decided what to use in the Tacoma. I would normally have used Mobil1 5w30 but it's now an API SN with a GF-5, so it's likely it's about 600 PPM ZDDP. I'd prefer something a little better, but I don't want to screw up anything else. I know I won't be using 5w20 despite what the TSB says.

I've been buying this stuff at NAPA and O'Reilly:

I can't remember the ZDDP amount off the top of my head, but that's its main claim to fame. I think it's around $8 a bottle.

Here is a good article about ZDDP.
