In your opinion, what year/model LC is the absolute best intersection of money, durability and performance?

Here to chime in on the two is always better than one approach. IMHO, one of the two should be an 80. At one point we had an 80, 100, and 200 at once, each at some level of modified. It's nice having a 200 or 100 to hop into and take the kid to school or cruise on the highway to visit family. Like Chase mentioned, you better buy something you like the aesthetics of. In addition, you should also find satisfaction from repairing and maintaining your vehicle, they are not supper needy but like others have mentioned, they are getting old and parts are getting harder to find.

With that said, the 80 is my favorite, but I've never owned a 40 or 60 series, despite trying.
