Doesn't sound like it. From what UB was describing, it seems like the truck tried to drive before the actuator moved fully and the shift fork or the engagement splines are messed up, or both. They just towed him out in 2wd.
I'm not positive on the actuated tcases, but on the manuals, the 4wd light comes on when the ADD activates, rather than the tcase being shifted, so the actuator could be gone, but that shouldn't make a grinding noise when trying to drive.
