Your photos are beautiful!!! And you're so lucky to be there when there's a volcano erupting!!!!

I went in September 2011 for a little over a week. I rented a little 5 speed FWD hatchback with aggressive snow tires and did the entire ring road plus some mild F roads. And I camped the whole time using a little one person bivy. It was absolutely gorgeous and I seriously looked at jobs in Iceland for a while. What a magical place!

Yup. Really cool place. Fly Icelandair to Europe thru Rekjavik and you can add overnight stays on the same reservation. We did on our last trip to Europe both going and coming home. Stayed at the Blue Lagoon and other places.

Icelanders have it figured out. They have nearly 100% renewable electricity and half the cars are EVs with free public charging everywhere and the other half of the cars are Land Cruisers.
evs work in places like iceland and norway courtesy of the waterfalls. they've been on hydroelectricity for decades. we don't have that benefit.

Mostly Geo thermal power using steam to make electricity like in this small power plant in the boonies

Interesting thing is they pipe Hot water directly to homes which they use to heat for almost no cost. This seemed to be the case except on the west side of the Island where they do not have Geo thermal vents to use.

Oh yeah definitely. It helps that Iceland has less population than Wyoming as well. We have tons of geothermal potential in Colorado that is currently untapped except for tourist hot springs.

Iceland is a fantastic place.

My recommendations for a visit:

The Northwest territory's receive about 4% of the tourist population. A better spot in Iceland to view the Northern Lights. My favorite part of the country.

For the hot spots. A visit to Artic Trucks is a must. Emil and the team Helped Greg and the E7 team reach the Northern most point of the Greenland Ice Sheet. First team to do so. Artic Trucks also provides tours into some of Iceland's wonderful spots. Porsmork valley was recommend to me by our friend Greg. It's an F road. So you'll need a 4x4.

A 4x4 bus also goes in. That was a fun ride.

Blue Lagoon and all the iconic spots, worth visiting.
