The last week my 80 made some grumpy noises right at startup. Normally one or two "grunts" then ran fine all day. Assumed that this was my AC clutch going out as it looked like it was siezing when the noise occurred, and turning on the AC from in the cab made it constant even when the truck was warm.

Went to remove the belt this morning and order a new clutch. Big surprised the crankshaft pulley had about 1/2" of play in it. At first I thought the bolt had backed out, but it looks like the rubber isolator ring on the pulley has disintegrated.

My local mechanic can get it in next weekend, and good news I have all the parts on the shelf. New pulley, bolt, washer, and the front seal. The oil pump seal was done by the PO and is not leaking. The front crankshaft seal has been leaking for 3 years, probably contributing to the failure of the pulley.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how awful will this job be on snow in my driveway? No access to a garage and I will need to find a torque wrench to borrow.

Can I swap the pulley and do the seal without pulling the rad?

Trying to see if I want to tackle this today, or just pay for 2hrs of shop time. 🤔

I 3D printed a crank pulley seal driver for my 60, I made it a shallow enough profile so I didn't have to pull the radiator when I replaced the seal. I don't know if a 2F crank pulley seal is the same size as a 1FZ-FE crank pulley seal though. You are more than welcome to borrow it. I am in Kittredge. You are also welcome to use my heated garage. Three Oh Three Six Seven Four Two Three Eight Six. I have to run to the store but will be back around 1:30 or so.

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately I am up the hill and driving with the pulley in its current state seems like a poor choice.

I went ahead and just got a slot with the mechanic for Friday. Just don't have time to piddle around with how busy things are at work currently.

You don't have to pull the radiator and you can use a PVC coupling, 2 inch I think but check with the seal.

Hardest part is the bolt but just use the breaker bar method with the coil unplugged. It will be like half of a revolution and like magic it's loose.

If you have a groove from old seal, try to install new seal offset from that groove.

Most importantly torque the bolt correctly, I forget the spec 306 ft lb maybe? You can use a semi shallow socket on torque converter bolt to hold engine while tightening.

Probably be done in 2 hours.
