I'm planning on it. Need to figure out my DTS and auto load repeater tone. I got ctcss set but it would be nice if someone could make sense of my manual so my 1802 can recognize the repeater tone itself.

Can't make it. Dang it... well sort of - Squishy is treating us to a Breckenridge weekend as just a really nice thing to do for the grumpy parents! I will see if there is secure parking for the Chili and see if I can get a hall pass for a ham moment around that time.

Very few of our repeaters send a tone. The CTCSS is something your radio includes on the signal so that the repeater recognizes your transmission is a valid one and not interference or noise. The repeater when it re-transmits your signal will strip that tone off and people on the receiving side will not hear it. A few repeaters will include the tone (same or different than input, doesn't matter) as a convenience to you so that you can reduce the amount of static and noise you hear. But it's optional and not setting a receive tone will not keep you from hearing the repeater.

This is exactly the sort of thing Nakman intends to talk about, so be sure to come along. You can talk about it until you are blue in the face on the Internets, but 5 minutes with a radio in real life will make it soooooo much clearer.

To be clear, this is one of the things I'll be asking Dave or Groucho to talk about... :)

And Bill, if you had an HT you could talk to us on through the Breck repeater over the Colorado Connection, probably from the chairlift.

Which repeater are you trying to set? The 145.145 is a 107.2

Hit the MHZ for a second then change to sql type(49) and set it to tone.

Then set the tone freq TN Freq(52) to 107.2

then you should be able to broadcast on 145.145

The one thing I don't like is that you can't save the repeater(freq) to know to use the 107.2 if you have it saved as a programed channel. You need to flip back and forth for tones when using different repeaters. It seems to be a global setting and that sucks balls. They only redeeming thing is once you know the process it's pretty quick.

I've never had a Yaesu radio that set the PL tone globally for memory operation. I do not have an 1802. Here is the manual.

If you tune the VFO to your desired rf freq, set the tone freq, set the tone mode, set the repeater shift, and then save, the memory should contain those settings until you delete that memory slot. Each memory should be able to save individual settings.

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but since this will be my first RS event I'm a bit in the dark. As for the breakfast is it each for his own or should I just bring some stuff for everyone? I'm coming alone and I don't have a portable grill, so I was planning on bringing food assuming someone else would have a grill. I've got a few chairs and a portable table I planned on bringing as well.

Hey man no bad questions.. and usually the best answer is just bring what you want and plan to share, and it always has a way of working itself out. Yes there will likely be other portable grills and stoves there, if you'd have fun cooking everyone eggs benedict or biscuits & gravy then great bring it out... OTOH a pack of donuts would also be appropriate, and require much less work and cleanup!

Good call on the donuts. I can handle that. I'll also bring some plates, napkins, etc.

You're right. My memory is what sucks. :o

My VFO mode and channels are all set up and run right. What I was thinking is in non vfo mode you have to change the tone if your flipping around. IMHO it should remember the what you have as vfo settings. Kinda like a regular radio.. if your hitting scan and you come up to a programed channel it will still say channel 1 knowing it's a preset.

Tim, Do you have a place with a big pavilion? Weather forecast looks nasty but we all know how that goes.

Yeah I saw that... I've got a couple blue pavillions in the 80 that we can string up between vehicles... :hill:

I can't remember if there is one up there or not though. There's one down at Dedisse but still unclear on if it's open or not. But I'm not too worried, I think if anything it'll just be a little drizzly, so bring a jacket and we should be fine.

Probably wont be able to make it seems I have caught the high nox disease and will be doing the 35" tire to 33" tire swapping thing again. A dose of new duel cats at Buds should clear up this infection. I will monitor and and participate in the nets if I can

So, Kim gave me the ok :thumb: to get a radio , so I headed over to HRO today and picked up an FT-8800R, an antenna and a mount. I installed it this afternoon and I'm ready to get on the air but I'm clueless about the repeaters.

As in, what does this mean I have to manually set on my radio before I transmit?

This is greek to me:
145.460MHz, -0.600, W0CRA/R, Lee Hill, CTCSS=107.2
147.225MHz, +0.600, W0CRA/R, Conifer Mtn, CTCSS=107.2

I might have to postpone my Utah departure so that I can attend the Ham & Eggs run... :o where to start?

Sweet! Sorry it means a delay, but glad to have you on the run Martin! All you do is select which side you're on, then dial in that frequency, then press that center button then move to function #38 or so.. I think that's the tone one. They're all in there together though, one is the offset, the next is the tone, and the next one decides ENC or END DEC or DEC or nothing. The first time it will take you 10 minutes with the book in your lap, but you'll get much faster.

Then again, if you can convince Dave to just bring his laptop, you can just sit back and watch the upload.... :)

Frequency, offset, tone. Congrats Martin. That's a sweet Radio. Are you putting it in the 40 or 60?

Thanks! I'll try to figure it out today. I read the manual cover to cover already but haven't dived into the menus yet.

It's mounted in the 40, but I'm going to run a separate power harness for it in the 60 so it will just be plug and play. I got a Diamond antenna and mag mount for now which can be easily swapped onto either vehicle. Once I get an HT to use, I'll hard mount an antenna on the 40 and keep the mag mount for the 60.

I should have it, which means VX-7R and FT-8800R programming.

cool.

That's the key. Just need time to play with it. :thumb:
