I had 3.73's in my '82 FJ40 with 33x12.5's and swapped them out for 4.11's. I could still go 65+ down the highway, and the low range was noticeably improved all though nothing like a doubler on the trail. That 2F ran very well, like most do, and would rarely die on me chugging up steep stuff. I thought it was a perfect all-round setup since it was my DD. That was before the days of the orion though.
My current 40 project, which is a budget build (with a little help from my friends
) will eventually get an sm420 or sm465, depending on which adapter plate I can find a smokin' deal on.
