Clarifying question for you guys. I noticed yesterday that my batteries weren't charging, which I traced to having a very loose drive belt in my 80. It looks like the alternator adjuster loosened, and that the lock bolt must have wiggled free and fell out.

I just want to make sure I'm accounting for all the parts on the adjusting bar. The picture below is what I removed: the long adjusting bolt, and the square nut thingy for the lock nut. It looks like the threads on the square nut are stripped, and I think I need a new lock bolt. Anything else?

The pivot bolt right under the distributor is still there and tight, but I guess I need the locking bolt to hold tension.

One other question. Does the lock bolt thread through the square nut and into the alternator. It's tough to see what's going on down there, but I'm guessing there is a threaded hole at the bottom of the alternator that the lock bolt threads in to.

I just did all this last month fixing the front main and oil pump oring leaks...

I think I remember the adjustor lock bolt goes through that adjustor block and into the lower ear on alt..but I could be wrong...

Found a fsm icture that kind of confirms that same idea...

Thanks Mike. I went ahead and ordered the two bolts and the square block. Once they arrive I'll dig in with the new parts. I think removing the battery + tray will give me more visibility into the mounting points.

Matt...you're welcome to look at mine while I'm out of town. The truck is sitting in the driveway.

The parts guys had trouble finding all the parts I needed in one place, so here's the list.

16385-17010, Slider Fan Belt Adjuster (this is the square nut)
91511-C0835, Bolt (this is the shorter lock bolt that threads into the alternator)
90119-08493, Bolt (this is the long adjusting bolt)

I didn't replace the adjusting bar, but it's 16381-66030.
