Yep, they waited 3 hours for the police to show up after Jim found it. No thief in sight.

Interesting about the keys. I bet the cylinders are worn out. One of the keys had what looked like 35 years' worth of wear.

I mean, it's a car thief. Not usually the smartest of the bunch! Interestingly the owner said there was zero damage, including to the ignition cylinder. So how did the their start it? Are the tumblers in old Cruiser cylinders so worn out that any key can start these trucks?

Yes. Most old Toyota keys stand a pretty good chance of working in old cruiser locks. Years ago I had a cruiser shipped from Texas & the driver lost the keys. I was pissed. He told me about wear in Toyota locks & that there was a good chance any old key would work. Not every key I had worked, but many of them did, surprisingly. It all just depends on how much wear is in there. Plus if he had a Toyota based bump key & knew how to use it, he could have rocked it out pretty quickly.
