I spoke with everyone: Redline (no response), Robbie in AZ, Steve et al.—almost everyone on the list, and some are out of state. In the end, I ended up working it out with Johnny at Cruiser Co. in Westminster, went and met up with him in person last Friday, and had an hour-long conversation; we talked through so many things that I've lost track at this point, but he gut-checked me on a bunch of things, we worked it out. He took the time to research what I was looking for before my visit, consulted me several times, and finally came up with the numbers. They don't do a lot of 60 series work, mostly 80s, but he knows his stuff, seeing as he's had past working experience working on the rigs in another popular shop. We'll do a 2F swap + H55F + new t-case, split case with 4:1 ratio, new mounts, and knuckle rebuild for the initial project to get the mechanical in good shape. The plan is to post pics of the project as we go... in a few months when we kick it off.
Someone asked me if I was restoring it. I thought I wasn't, but let's be honest, I am. I didn't realize I was, and it's being done sequentially. /shrugs
Edit: Separately, I'm also going to give my money to the "younger" guy who's building his business because there is a shortage of talent, and if we endeavor to "preserve the legacy" of these machines truly, I'd be willing to give him the money than some snob (no offense to their stages) to ensure we breathe new life in the fold. That's at least how I see things.
