FJ60 Help Needed

Hello, my first post. I tried searching, but couldn't quite find what I'm looking for so apologies if the answer is out there. (Been awhile since I've used forums).

I have an '84, with the only notable mods being a lift kit. A few months ago the mechanical fuel pump went out. I replaced it, and have been struggling since.

It ran reliably for weeks between purchase and when the fuel pump went out. After the pump, it started showing signs of a clogged carb, so I tore it down and rebuilt.

After a longer delay that I'd like to admit, I'm back trying to fit the carb back on. I'm 90% certain everything is where it should be but two issues seem to showing up.

The choke knob when pulled does not close the metal flap inside at the top of the carb. And I'm fairly certain pumping the gas pedal isn't pulling gasoline to the carb.

All of that being said, I'm wondering if there's someone local that can A) come take a look, because I'm in over my head a little bit or B) recommend a trustworthy shop near SE Aurora that can diagnosis/fix.

My current plans for the FJ is to get it to pass emissions so I can register it. Then possibly slap on a fuel injection conversion kit for the reliability aspect.

Happy to answer any questions, and thank you in advance for any help!

Post some pics of the carb and we may be able to see where something has been misplaced.

Didn't the later 2F use the same Kyosan fuel pump as the 22R mini trucks? I am not in any way disputing Jeff, just that the spacer is critical on the mini if you don't want to damage it.

The fuel pump on my '87 60 did not have one, nor did the new OEM one that I got at Stevinson need one. The one on my '76 40 doesn't have one, nor does the F in my '71 40. I've never had to replace the one on my '78 45. I have seen several aftermarket fuel pumps that did need one however, including CCOT's and NAPA's. If the pump needs one and you don't use the spacer I'm pretty sure you're going to know it the second the motor gets fired up though.
