Saw something new to me yesterday. Was walking in south Boulder when a car pulled over just in front of me, was stopping to drop off someone. It was a Porsche Taycan. Never seen one before, pretty cool looking car. The custom license plate read "600volts". Hmm, Porsche makes an electric? No visible exhaust pipes in back, yep, must be an electric. Then why is it making a idling engine noise?

When I got home, I had to look it up:

Yep, fake engine noise. I guess if you spend $100k+ on a Porsche, you want it to sound like a Porsche. It has an off switch for when you want to join the 21st century. :)

If I spend $100k on an electric Porsche, I don't want to hear anything. I just want to go really %$#@&%# fast. :D

I watched a thing on the importance of the audible feedback people expect. Everything from the crunch of a potato chip (Pringles is specifically designed for big crunch power), to the overly loud noise of a vacuum (noise = power in this case). Companies spend big bucks on their specific sound...Harley tried to patent their engine/pipe noise combo...

Companies like Rolls Royce, Bentley, Cadillac etc have spent the better part of 100 years developing cars to be quieter and smoother than ever before and now that technology exists to reach the ultimate goal...the government steps in and says it has to have a 10 cent speaker playing white noise. Genius.

The only Porsche I ever want to drive is an air cooled model. Got a chance to spin around in my Father's 1995 993 over Thanksgiving.

First vehicle he ever bought and treated like a baby. Currently sitting at 51k.

Electric engines will never have the same feel as a naturally aspirated v6. He is looking at a new one, but definitely not the Taycan. He drove jt and hated it. Apparently he is working to get a 718 Spyder on order.

I have been told all my life its not a "real" porsche unless it is open airbase, has a naturally apsirated flat 6, and a manual gearbox.
