Change the engine oil and filter and air filter and add a gallon of denatured alcohol on just under quarter tank of fuel. Use to work for me years ago. Least on a carburated 2f.

So, on two separate emissions tests, they have not opened the hood and "Air injection system" is listed as "N/A" on the "Equipment Inspection" part of the report. I would love to trash the PAIR system, but not if it is actually doing anything to reduce my emissions, which it probably isn't. Is there any way to test whether it is still functioning?

I got the PCV replaced, set timing to 3, replaced the FPR, plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. This time, my CO great, but my NOx was much worse, so I failed again.

I did a smoke test on my vacuum system and it does look like my egr modulator is leaking.
If the EGR is leaking that could be introducing fresh air into the exhaust system.

The PAIR system, and most emissions systems are emissions through dilution (I'm sure there is more than simple dilution going on, of course). The PAIR system pumps clean air directly into the exhaust manifolds.

Again, I would suggest getting it to pass with everything intact before you go ripping stuff out. As for tests, there are procedures in the FSM.

Sooo... I just talked to my landlord and learned that my house is actually in Gilpin County. The Jefferson/Gilpin line literally goes through the property. So, I have an appointment to register the 80 tomorrow in Central City - no emissions required!

PAIR injects fresh air into the exhaust only immediately after startup and then once the engines gets up to temperature it stops. It does this to get the cats up to temperature faster. It's similar to the SAI system on the later 100 series and 200 series. If the PAIR is injecting air while the engine is warm that would definitely cause high NOx among other issues.

Luckily, problem solved!
