Well, now it seems like it has a slight growl. Reading through ZUK's website he says used bearings should have a really light preload. So I may have mucked it up. And trying to find a diff rebuilder is not an easy endeavor. I may have to do this myself.

@jps8460 , do you have a diff holding jig I could borrow? I know you've done these in the past but seems like you're pretty busy. Or maybe someone could fab one up for me, or for the club to have and be able to be borrowed?

I don't have one but I think I have all the materials to fab one up if anyone has some dimensions they could post.

Mine is all bolted down, but you’re going to need an assortment of clam shells and other tools to do the job.

This is nearly identical to the one i have

If you’re going that deep, I’d just rebuild it. I’ve found that with well worn carrier bearings, you can never get them back in the exact spot they we removed from and generally they have a specific wear pattern. It leads to false preload numbers.

also, I generally will not reuse gear sets that have been ran with a significantly loose pinion flange. It usually leads to a noisy gear set. I think this because If there is axial play, your now inducing sliding wear into the equation instead of just wear from rolling pressure.

It was not cheap, but happy to have Zuk on the case, and it’s getting done quickly:

Got it back on Friday. Final pattern. I guess the bearings were pretty worn so the new bearings required some changes in the shims.

Matt installed the rebuilt diff yesterday and for good measure did a front knuckle service as well. He did run into an issue with the threads for the top knuckle cap stripping out. Fortunately, he is one of maybe five people of the 7.5 billion on the planet that is able to get the needed part from the floor in his garage.

While not a technical write up, I took a few pictures throughout the day.

Axles are out.

Ricardo, I seriously cannot thank you enough for the use of your shop, supplies, tools, and time to help do a 1-day diff swap and knuckle service! I just can't believe how the time flew late in the afternoon, but thank you so much for sticking with it and putting up with me!  :risingsun
