@Canonyero and Norby joined Ripley and I this weekend for Champion Mill. We both decided if the other person was in the trip was occurring. We are so glad we went out! The weather report had us feeling pretty uneasy but we agreed if the rain was to much we could always leave. Also a few people gave us words of encouragement.
When we started down halfmoon rd it was raining and the mountains were covered with clouds. It did not seem promising. It let off when we decided to air down and found a nice a little spot. We made a tarp rain shelter for the evening for relaxing evening around the fire. Saturday morning we woke up with the clouds around the peaks and blue skies!
The trail to the mill was easy, fun and pretty. Trail traffic was minimal after we passed the 2nd MT. Massive TH. The creek crossing was very low, especially compared to when @DomOfTheDead and I did this in May. Fall is starting to make an appearance and flowers were not as abundant. We parked the trucks at the gate for a short walk to the mill.
Later in the evening it rained pretty hard with some thunder for a couple hours and a small herd of elk came down for a drink. A bull, a few cows with calves. I forgot my camera so pictures aren't as good as I would have liked for that. It was a great trip! Super glad to be able to get out this weekend with good company!
