It's going to be busy this year. Everybody is doing travel management to meet the 2008 deadline and we stand to lose a lot of trails.

Attention Colorado Recreationists!
The Columbine Ranger District/Field Office, managed by the San Juan Public Lands (SJPL) Center, is changing its Travel Plan!
At this time the agency is conducting "public scoping" to gather public input to be used to develop a plan for the designation of roads and trails for motorized use within the Lakes Landscape. (The Lakes Landscape analysis area is located north of Durango and Bayfield on the San Juan National Forest's Columbine Ranger District.)
The plan will limit ALL vehicle use to designated roads and trails and formally close any route that is not on the final plan. In addition, mixed use (allowing highway-legal and non-highway legal vehicles to operate on the same road) and off-road motorized travel for dispersed camping will also be addressed.
The FS has developed some preliminary Alternatives, including a "proposal" (Alternative 2). The information and the maps are available on the agency's website at (ftp://ftp2.fs.fed.us/incoming/r2/sanjuan/Travel_Management/Columbine/Lakes/). HOWEVER.... The gang here at BRC's public lands office had a great deal of difficulty downloading the stuff, so in case you have the same problems we did, we've posted the materials here: http://www.sharetrails.org/uploads/PL/CO_Lakes_Landscape_TMP/
This will enable you to review the project scoping letter and maps of the motorized road and trail proposal. A low-resolution map of the Lakes Landscape Overview map is provided should you have trouble with the higher resolution version. A comment sheet is also provided for your input.
OHV enthusiasts are encouraged to comment on this plan by August 17, 2007.
