I am looking for a CO2 tank and kit. I have never used CO2 so I don't really know what to look for. I run 35's but may be switching to 37's this fall. Are there any good deals out there right now or brands/dealers you would suggest. Thanks.

this has been covered many times on pirate and mud. You can make your own for a LOT cheaper. Old fire extinguishers make great tanks, and valves are 15.00, regulators can be had for 30.00, and it takes about 15.00 ~ 20.00 to fill a 10~15 lb bottle. You can get about 5 fills from 10 psi on 37's.

Personally, I don't think that it's worth the 250~350.00 you would pay a vendor.

Hell, you can lease a tank from linweld for 99.00, buy a regulator, and STILL be a head of the game.

I bought my setup from Ultimate air. There are links to these and a sale on another system in the vendors section on IH8MUD.com

As far as I know, Cramer-Decker is still offering their deal for TLCA members. I paid about $100 for a nice 10 pound aluminum tank and regulator. Paul Decker will set you up with either 80 or 150 PSI spring for the regulator. He set mine up for 150 and also sent along the 80 spring if I wanted to change it out, but 150 works fine. A 20 pound tank takes up too much space IMHO.

My buddy made his own from a 20lb CO2 bottle used for soda's.

He bought everything off ebay for less than 100 bucks.

There are a lot of write ups on the web about what to get and where.

Bought mine from General Air on S. Santa Fe, talk to Dave Rios. Great guy. Got a 10 lb. and a 5 lb. and use neither, I might sell one but I think the kid has his eye on it.

OBTW, Dave has good deals on first-quality Miller and Lincoln stuff too from time to time. Tell him I sent you and he may do business with you anyway.

I went the DIY route. Used a 150# static regulator from Cramer-Decker, maybe it was Chicago Pneumatic, don't remember  doesn't matter, and a 5# tank from General Air per Red_Chili (5# is plenty for 31's). Total cost including the tank was around $80 as I has other stuff laying around, QDs, hose, etc. Found out the hard way that the plain 'ol yellow self coiling air doesn't cut it. I order the urethane stuff for another $50  only to find out that its the exact same stuff my wife uses for medical gas in the operating room. Any way she has 1st dibs on a hose IF and when one brakes (rare event). It's more cost effective for them to replace it than repair it.

Thanks for the help. what is the difference in function between the 80 and 150lb springs? I will try to find a used alum. tank somewhere and buy the other parts.

150 psi lets you air up your tires faster (More pressure) also able to better run air tools (more pressure). I had to cut a 1 inch (1/8 thick) piece of metal in my garage last weekend with a cut tool (Grinder) and I used the CO2 bottle rather than firing up the air compressor.

I needed a 10 second cut. $9 to fill my 10lb tank, I think I can afford it. Besides, I was concerned about having a full tank in the LX450 on hot days, needed to dump a little anyways.

Ken,
Where do you have your 10lb tanks filled for $9 or is it a secret?

General Air and Supply charges me $16 for a 20# bottle exchange. First bottle was free as it came from Kipper who stole it off a Pepsi truck. :lmao: :lmao: Not true but the bottle I did get from Kip was Pepsi owned.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I have a commercial account at Gen Air.

There are many reasons I do not like CO2 for filling tires but Ken touches on the biggest reason. I have a problem carrying a large supply of a heavy gas inside my vehicle that can replace all O2 in the cabin many times over with an enviornment that humans cannot live in. I do carry CO2 in my 80 when on trail rides only but when I can get some time I will figure out a place to install a belt driven compressor and the CO2 will end up on the trailer.
