Pretty sure Jefferson County just paid off a ransomware attack earlier this year. It was against the public defender's office and some other offices in Colorado. Court cases were suspended for months.

It's funny because last year I was trying to submit evidence to the Sherriff by email and I had to follow a crazy convoluted method and he could only email me one message at a time in an archaic email relay system. All for "cyber security."

Funny, not funny. Besides the obvious "we are from the government and we are here to help" in Jeffco situation. CEO's get bonus', likely more than all active members of RS combined, and while their infrastructure is cobbled together garbage.

Actually it isn't funny at all. Appalling, really.

My company was hacked last June and we were down for over a month and a half until were bavk up and somewhat running. We ended up having to replace every single computer and laptop in the company, around 10,000 or so, and all of our routers and servers. Our IT group even locked the USB functionality on all computers so that you can't plug in a USB thumb or hard drive. We are also constantly being sent fake emails from our IT department to see if we can recognize fake or bogus emails. If you click on a bogus email link, you are flagged in the system and have to take a cyber security refresher course.

Even if the ransom is paid there is a whole lot of serious repercussions and costs that are involved with replacing all sorts of hardware and software. It's not like people are going to take criminals at their word when they tell their victims, "hey as long as you pay us a shit ton of money we won't do this to you again in the near future". All of these dealerships systems are fully compromised and need to be replaced.

Mucho, mucho dinero is going to be lost both during and after this event for years to come I suspect.

Month and a half to acquire, image and deploy 10,000 workstations plus servers and network infrastructure? Must be the one company that is/was doing successful and realistic BC/DR planning. Quite the amazing feat. CEO's bonus should go to your infrastructure team.

The hack crippled car dealers, and forced them to reverted doing business with paper and pen like animals.

daimler has said that dealers that are on cdk may still have three more weeks before they are fully integrated into the daimler system.

Ige, so they are dumping CDK and going with their own internal system?

daimler doesn't use cdk, but a lot of dealers do. but the dealer operating system has to integrate to daimlers systems on multiple programs. everything from parts catalog to paragon (checking availability/ordering parts) to the customers parts catalog system, wiring schematic program, service advisor program...i think there's about 10 different programs where the dealer opsys has to work with daimlers systems.
