I was planning on getting a handheld too for Cruise Moab. If I was to get one of those little all-in-one hand unit things & a simple magnetic antenna, how hard is it to install?
I used to have a little CB like this http://www.amazon.com/Midland-1001Z-40-Channel-CB-Radio/dp/B00024DIDK/ that I used in my car with a mag mount antenna. I ran the antenna wire and the power wires between the door and the body through that rubbery seal thing. No modifications to the vehicle necessary. I hooked up the power wires directly to the battery and put the antenna on the roof. Worked great. About 15 minutes to put it on or take it off.

Abe, just a cig plug and a magnet so install is nearly instant. Just make sure you have compatible RF connectors on the radio and antenna and you'll be golden.
I run the Midland 75-822 and it's minutes to install if you have a compatible mag mount. It's a 4W radio but so are the full size radios (in most cases) that are legal in the USA for CB AM.
I wouldn't bother with a handheld antenna in a vehicle but a handheld radio with a good mag mount external antenna will perform as well as a hard mount radio. Hard mount can be more convenient and cheaper but that's about it.
