aside from having a bruised shoulder from constantly bouncing into the A pillar and needing to see a chiropracter the stock 64 with open diffs didn't loose any hub caps and made it through unassisted. Although, I did think the crazy jeep guy was going to attack me. He flipped out when he saw my old beast. I was secretly hoping he was pointing at Dean

Well he liked Zepp, Wes, Zettl (in his 40), and Dave Brown, but he didn't like me or Ralston IIRC - go figure

the wheelstands have a bypass to the left around a tree - I'd say it's really the last obstacle on the trail. At least the last memorable one. It's getting somewhat dug out so that's why we went so high (especially the shorty 40s).

There were some pictures in this thread of Dave and Kim Brown doing wheelstands, but it looks like they're gone now and there's just the pictures of the maroon 80 on page 3 at the same location. We all drove up the big hill no problems, I haven't been on that since I've had the locker and tires, what a difference!

Sorry for the wheelstands those who didn't want it. I thought I had 40's figured out, but next time, I will do the LWB guys, and let a more experienced 40 spotter do the shorties.

I tried to get Jeff up that right side to keep his rear out of the deepest part of the hole, but it still lifted sky high.

It is ALL good - I figured now was the time to do it when the family was at home safe . I wasn't too worried till the engine died and then I looked over at Subzali and he was "gently" pointing passenger side . All I needed was for the crazy Jeep guy to show up and jump on my front bumper for me .

Seriously though, the spot was fine and knowing what was coming kept the skidmarks away . Glad to hear the "tub issue" wasn't as bad as it sounded.

I made it home....barely. I figured it was better to take my chances in the daylight hours than risk a tranny failure at 9 or 10 pm.

That dude was WILD . He yelled nice "Jeep" to me which I relayed to the group over the CB which he overheard over Steve's CB speaker. He came running back up to me apologizing for calling my rig a Jeep and then kept on.

Thanks for sharing the pics, guys, did it get harder? I don't remember mandatory wheel stands, or needing straps...

Seems about the same as last year . I've only been on it twice though and last year it was with the LX. I avoided the wheel stand line with the family last year after watching Nemo catch MAJOR air . You pretty much have to put yourself over there or not be paying attention as you can drive right around to the left.

I find the tippy, off camber, sections to be worse but I don't like tippy . I actually managed to rub my entire hardtop along an aspen tree at one spot trying to get less tippy

I just wanted to let you guys know that I had a great time. It was my first run and I was very impressed with the whole thing. I've never wheeled with more than 2 other rigs, so I need a little practice getting used to the group approach, but I really liked it. It's nice to be able to help out - and to know there is help available if I need it. I REALLY need to get a radio.

I still have a sh*t eating grin just from seeing all the cool Toyotas in my back yard!

Hopefully I'll get voted in at the August meeting (shameless plug).

And FWIW I thought Isaac did a fine job leading. Thanks man!

Sorry for my lame joke about jeff not wanting to do a wheel stand, I didn't mean to imply any lack of competanceor anything ...It was only funny to me because I knew both you and Jeff were more than capable to make sure nothing bad happened.

AS a matter of fact, without Isaac spotting me through two areas, I wouldn't have been able to navigate them. More specifically, that wheelstand place had me a little worried, but you explained clearly that the truck would fell really light and would be weird, things are fine...but throttle through it. Perfect explanation, and things went smoothly. thanks!!!

- It is ALL good Shawn. I got a major out of that because that is exactly what I told Isaac at first and then quietly told him a big wheel lift wouldn't be all that bad though , so Isaac put me exactly where I wanted to be . It was all good till my "capability" stalled the rig right in the hole . Being the last through the obstacle gave me reassurance that no matter how "funny" it felt, everything would be ok.

Now, if I had been in Rachel's 4Runner...That is some MAJOR air there!

It is interestesting to see how each rig reacts differently to the same obstacle. Romer in his LX just flexed right through there; Art is his 60 gets the wheel lift but appears pretty level; the FJ40s get a wheel lift and seem a little less level; but Rachel in her 4Runner oh my . She can wheel

Dude, I was GOING for the biggest wheelstand possible! Or are you talking about Jeff Zettl? We were both in shorty 40s

Problem is that bolts to a split case. Unless you have a split case and deal with the parking brake that won't work.

I didn't look at it but either the clutch isn't working right or maybe the shift fork is worn. Normally h42's are pretty bombproof

There are at (least) 3 different H41s, and of course none of them came on USA spec cruisers. Early mates to a "solid" t-case, later mates to a split case, and there is a version that mates to a B series diesel with solid case, more splines (21?) than the 16 spline gasser. I have one of those on the floor of my garage.

Nick and I did the hill before the rest of the group made it into the meadow, then drove back down and parked, waiting to see what was going on with Matt's tranny.

There was nothing obvious from the outside, he's going to have to pull the top off, or even the whole thing off and dig in to see what the shifting issue was. Clutch was operating normally, shifter retainer was intact and installed. I tried shifting it and got nothing. It finally went into gear for no reason, and he got off the trail with an entourage of Steve, Dave, and Dean. Glad he made it home okay!
