I have the big Camp Chef. It works good for what I (we) have used it for. I keep it on the roof rack on the motor home with a 20# propane bottle. I just rope them up or down when needed. It has been used a lot!
that one had great reviews... I went wit the compact version since it was.... compact tho.

Not a propane, but I was given a solo fire pit with the standoff ring. I kind of want to ask the ranger if those would be allowed at DH....assuming you don't overload it and make sure zero ashes fell. They are far more efficient at burning and are fully contained as long as you don't throw cardboard or tumbleweed in it.

One of the things i did was buy cheap ceramic logs and put them on top of my camp chef lava rocks. It looks nicer and seems to hold more heat too.

I've been eyeing those and wondering, they look nice.

We have one like the camp chef, and I've been surprised at how much propane it goes through. Fun to have a fire and would last longer at a lower heat, but that's not as much fun as bigger flames

I have the Outland fire bowl and seems to work well, does go through gas quickly, maybe 4-5 hours. I do like the idea of using some ceramic logs.

@Mendocino has one that he brought to a couple of runs we did last year. Seemed to work fine business.
Here's an action shot at Panorama Point in the Maze. It was cold and the skeptics quickly decided they loved the propane fire pit.

it definitely paired well with the stuff in the white box with the green ring. ;)

That’s exactly what I was thinking, it’s a nice package and would be an easy fun project

Do you still have one? I'd love to see how well it works. I was thinking about making one as well but don't want to waste the time/money/energy on one if it doesn't work very well.

I do. When do you want to scoop it up?

Care to share some photos is it basically what that person in the indestructables made? I assume they work real well for you?

this is one of the ones that I made. this was before I fired it up for the first time. The paint on the ammo can does not hold up to heat, so it baked a lot of it off. I plan to sand it down and refinish with high temp paint, since the box is steel and will end up rusting.

I bought this one to the last Rising Sun meeting, and can bring it to the next one. If there is enough interest, I can make some. @MountainGoat has one of the ones that I made, not sure if he has fired his up yet.
