Another false spring in the mountains brings out the motorcycle riders and like the false springs before another rider was killed off 72 hwy up outside Nederland. It seems to happen every year.

Please keep in mind the roads in the mountains are covered with mag, sand, melt and in some shady spots still ice. All this can cause a bike to come out from under the rider. The mag and sand will still be on the roads until the spring rains wash it off.

Be safe and god speed for the rider that lost their life this weekend.

I always hate to hear that has happened. 💔😢

But it's all too true. I won't hit a canyon on 2 wheels until I've driven up there and can see the road conditions. Until then, country roads are what keep me sane.

Truth. I had a BMW R65LS with serial no. 00001 that I bought from a guy who bought it at the factory in Berlin. Bright red with white wheels and it was immaculate. Mid-May 1985 and I rode it up Lookout Mountain looking out for sand, etc. and the pavement looked clear. On the spirited trip back down I did a low side slide into the guardrail right below the big M due to sand in a sweeping left hander. Had a helmet and leathers on. Bounced my head off the pavement, broke a shoulder and a hand. Destroyed the beautiful bike. Lucky to be alive. Be careful out there.

Goes for cars too. I was coming back from winter park on Berthod. As i came around a switch back it was complete ice nothing i could do and i'm pretty careful seasoned pass driver. Car in the opposite snow bank that completely slide out. I hit it and started to slide. Traction control kicked in on the 100 and straightened both fish tails contained mostly to my lane. I might have touched the yellow. If it weren't for traction control i'd have been in the snowbank too. Someone was killed in WP same thing truck hit ice slide into on coming traffic.

Very sad! Years ago when I sold an old Ducati Monster, a young guy came to look at it with his dad. He had fresh road rash up and down his arms and said he needed a new bike because he just totaled his. I was super nervous when he asked to test ride the bike, but his dad stepped in with cash in an envelope and said if he dropped it, they'd buy it. When the son was taking it for a spin up and down the street, I told his dad I didn't think this was the right bike for him. The dad got a little annoyed with me and said he was confident in his son's ability, and that was the right bike for him.

A few months later, I get a weird Facebook message from someone I didn't recognize asking if I owned a Ducati with VINxxx. I asked him why he was reaching out, and he said he just bought it at an insurance auction. He told me some young guy wrecked and died on the bike, and my heart sank because my fears were confirmed. I love motorcycles and rode for most of my life, but they sure do have a dark side. Hoping for a safer season for riders this year!

Oh man. That story really put a knot in my stomach. Just like any activity that has death as a side effect, there needs to be a level of appreciation & respect given to it. I've been relatively lucky in the accidents I've had on bikes. I'm happy to be on this side of the ground, and always tend to keep that healthy fear active while riding.

I used to work at the Ducati/Triumph dealer, and I spent most of my time trying to convince people that a 1200cc sport bike was not the right first bike. I unfortunately couldn't convince one young guy that it wasn't the right choice; he crossed a double yellow up near Berthod killing himself and another rider that he hit head on. I left the job a few weeks after that. It wasn't worth the guilt.

I also had a handful of people crash bikes on test rides. One instance a guy just parked the bike and left; the cops made a personal visit to his work.

We still have 2 bikes sitting in our shed that neither my wife nor myself have ridden since having our kid six years ago, sometimes I think about selling them, but I'm just not done lying to myself about letting go of my youth.
