I think it's a two part thing primarily:
Part A) The video I originally posted at one point shows the steep dropoff in Prius sales. He mentions that the dropoff isn't because of a 55% drop month over month in Prius demand but rather Toyota is choosing to move it's chips (see what I did there?) to a different pile. They are building higher margin vehicles.
Part B) There are real humans at dealerships who only make money on sales. So they are doing their gymnastics to make A sale. If you have 60% of the vehicles, well, take a trade of a vehicle you know you can at least move breaking even and then sell ANYTHING.
