PROJECT MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Wednesday, February 28, 2007, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Restoration projects can be complex. Project management is a systematic approach
that helps leaders bring in projects on time and on budget while remaining reasonably
sane. This training session outlines the basics of
project management that can be applied to restoration, or other workplace settings.
By the end of the session participants will be able to:

* develop goals
* sequence and schedule tasks
* develop a communications plan
* break down the project into achievable tasks
* identify bottlenecks and make plans to deal with them
* design the project closing
* delegate tasks

Will Murray will facilitate the workshop. He has conducted dozens of project
management training sessions in the U.S., Canada, China and Indonesia.

All members of the community are invited to attend! Will is generously offering
this training for FREE.

This is a friendly reminder about Wildlands Restoration Volunteer's annual crew leader training, March 16 eve - 18. We have a few training slots available, so if you'd like to claim a seat, please let us know ASAP.

WRV needs trained crew leaders for every project we do. Crew leading allows you to multiply the value of your personal volunteerism by the power of a whole team of volunteers. It's also a great way to develop leadership skills transferable to other parts of your life. If you've enjoyed volunteering and want to take the next step into leadership, this is a perfect path.

Please spread the word to anyone who might be interested.

St. Vrain State Park, east of Longmont. Directions will be sent out later.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
* Team building skills

* Introduction to restoration methods (planting, seeding, erosion control)

* Volunteer safety and enjoyment
* Hands-on practice as a crew leader in a safe supportive setting with your fellow crew leader trainees

COST
This 2+ day training costs $40. This fee covers basic costs like a comprehensive crew leader training manual, a set of crew leader quick reference cards, and your lunches. Additional donations are welcome to support our training program.

MENTORSHIP PATH
After you take this crew leader training, WRV can match you up with a skilled crew leader mentor on one or more projects, giving you a chance to practice your newly acquired skills with ample support and guidance. When you are ready, you can graduate to full crew leader status, and lead crews on your own.

TRAINING HOSTS
Wildlands Restoration Volunteers, Colorado Outdoor Training Initiative, and St. Vrain State Park.

MEALS
Friday dinner is on your own. Saturday and Sunday lunches are provided, plus coffee and bagels in the morning.

My bad! I glanced at it and assumed it was just a reminder for the Project Management class.....sorry.

I went to the PM workshop last night, braving the ice. Actually, once I got on 93 (avoiding I-25) the road was dry and I actually got there right at 6.

Pretty good. Basic PM stuff. The part I was really interested in, maximizing volunteer experiences so they get excited about next time, he had to pretty much skip over due to spending too much time on the intro. Still, got some good ideas, it was worth it.
