Thanks, I plan on doing that. I was hoping to keep the harness I have now and alter it for the 22re set up. I don't think I need motor mounts but could be wrong.

Quit stressing and get to work! Mounts are freaking easy and once you get the wire schems from both vehicles in front of you with a note pad you'll wonder why you wet your diaper!

Ah, decided the black chassis wasn't worth the work eh? Too bad, it had potential.

Brian, correct me if I'm wrong, but if Tom pulls the dash apart on the black truck, and pulls his dash apart, can't he just transfer everything over? He has to rip the dash out anyway.

That truck has an ORS harness in it.

I is easier to keep my suspension on my truck and and swap motors. I am trying to figure out what I may use it for got some ideas. What is it that is different in the dash area between the two.

My problem is that I can't find to much on 22re swaps, most go to the 3vze and that is no help.

Any word on the other parts Isaac? I will need to swap the tank hoping they upgraded the fuel pump in there for the 3.4.

Misc Info

Here are some notes that may or may not apply. This is from the 3.0 to 3.4 but it gives guidance on what to look for. Terry

3.0L(3VZE) To 3.4L(5VZFE) Engine Conversion

3.0L Parts Needed:
• Motor mounts
• Bell housing
• Clutch fork
• Throw-out bearing
• Radiator/shroud/fan
• Oil pressure sender
-The 3.4L mounts sits at different angle although the bolt pattern is the same. I think the bell housing is the same for both but not positive, same for T/O bearing and clutch fork. The 3.0L fan will bolt to the 3.4L fan clutch, I think all the 3.4L radiator parts will work also but not positive.

3.4L Parts Needed:
• Engine ECU
• Engine wiring harness
• Clutch/pressure plate/pilot bearing
• Flywheel
• Intake system with MAF sensor
• Radiator hoses
• All sensors including both o2 sensors, etc
• Evap box
• All accessories (A/C, PS, alternator, radiator fan clutch, belts, etc)
-The 3.0L evap can may be used with the 3.4L evap can sensors to save space in the engine bay. I will get some pic of how to do this.

Universal Parts:
• 5-Speed tranny (R-150F, same manual tranny for both motors)
-At this time I have little info on swapping in an auto tranny, it can be done and at minimum requires the 3.4L auto ECU and 3.4L 4-speed auto trans. Although the number designation given the 3.0L tranny and the bolt pattern are the same as the 3.4L tranny, they are not compatible electronically. Off-Road Solutions is now offering kits and instructions on completing this swap.

Additional OEM Parts Needed:
• 2WD T-100 Oil Pan
• 2WD T-100 Oil Sump
• 2WD T-100 Dip Stick & Tube
-I understand that if swapping into a 2WD truck the stock 3.0L oil-pan can be reused with some modification.

Additional Custom Parts Needed:
• Conversion wiring harness (To adapt engine harness to body harness)
• Flex Fuel Line Adapter (To adapt engine fuel lines to body fuel lines)
• Battery Tray (Opposite side of 3.0L configuration)

Body Modifications:
• 2" body lift to accommodate additional height of 3.4L intake manifold
-Hood can be cut instead, I will make a template of the hole and post it soon. Also a scoop or cowl can be grafted to cover hole. I believe toyotafiberglass.com is making a bulge hood for this.

Known Bugs & Solutions:
The tach, cruise control and A/C all will not work because the 3.4L uses positive pulse RPM readings and the 3.0L uses negative pulse to control these devices. Also the stock oil gauge will fry due to the 3.4L sending a higher voltage.

Tach Solution:
Solder 10K-OHM resistor between two contacts on back of*the stock 3.0L tach. The links below are pics of the tach mod for both 2nd(84-88) and 3rd(89-95) gen trucks.
Tach Pic 1
Tach Pic 2

Cruise Control Solution:
Adapt 3.0L cruise system or ideally install complete 3.4L controls and wiring

A/C Solution:
You need the electronic card from the 3.4L A/C cooling unit located behind the glove box in the donor vehicle. With the 3.0L configuration the card receives a signal from the negative side of the ignition, in order to work now it will now need to receive a positive signal from the ECU instead. You will need Toyota wiring diagrams to figure this one out.

Oil Pressure Gauge Solution:
Voltage Differences Require Use Of 3.0L Oil Pressure Sender To Prevent Damage to 3.0L Gauge. Or you can use the 3.4L gauge. Some people claim to not have a problem but more than not have fried the stock gauge.

I am, starting Saturday;) I just suck at electrical stuff and don't want to blow up an ECU or whatever else I can blow up. I can blow electrical stuff like the best of them.

Secret: Don't hook up the battery until you check your circuits first! ;) ECU's are actually protected quite well from reverse flow but little wires have issues with 500 amp shorts! Caskey make a great harness but unfortunately all the wires in it are red and/or black. That frosts my arse when someone does that!

Terry thanks so much for the links, there were a few new ones in there I did not know about so more reading to do.

Kevin, if I felt better about the electrical I wouldn't worry so much but since I am a noob when it comes to that I worry. Funny you mention the red and black wires, my E locker wiring was all done in blue and black and all taped together. He blamed it on a kid that worked there. For the money he charges for a harness it should be color coded, at least that is what I think.

Couple of Points.

The fuel tank I will be bringing you has the lines for the body as well. The pump is not just a 3.4 pump, but a high output walbro pump to keep up with a supercharger. You will not have issues there.

Here is my point:

You seem to want to mess around with all this wiring.

If you simply pull the dash, use his cluster, and dash wiring, you can make this work.

The engine wiring unplugs from the computer and pulls through the dash in one spot. It will litterally take you 5 minutes to do this. Then you can pull the motor out of the black truck.

The differences between years is relatively minor, but you still need to go through all the pinouts. it is much easier to simply pull all the harnesses out from behind the dash, and swap them between trucks. You could get all of the wiring pulled and swapped in a weekend.

You do need motor mounts as you have to move them, but you can fab them easily. It took me an hour to do the ones on the black truck, and I was messing around with my dimple dies to boot.

Assuming you did all that, you could honestly have this done in a month.

You don't need another fuel pump. The 22RE fuel pump is fine for a 3.4. For that matter I am running it with the blower (with stock pulley, mind you) and have no starvation.

Yeah, I forgot Mike had red and black wires all over. I agree that sucks. He may have corrected that now.

Didn't know you had the 3.4 conversion truck to work off of. Follow Ike's advice. The body harness may not quite match but that should be easy.

I did a lot of reading, till 3 am, and found the frontrange 4x4 one of the most informing one yet. Still have questions but I guess I will have to cross that bridge when I get there.

I live in Roxborough, I can PM you the address if you can stop by and help. LMK I would appreciate the help. Plus you can collect your bottle of JD.

Tom - I can't get away today. My own to-do list is just too dang long.

Anyway, JD is better in Moab.

Tom, I'd like to come down and check out what you have going on. I live really close (470 and wads). I just have a lot of cleanup at this point from the wind damage.

I am right down the road, call me if you need help. Do you have a chainsaw? You can borrow mine if not just let me know and I will bring it from the job site.
