2023 was a different year for us. We didn’t draw any elk tags. Wyatt drew a pronghorn tag and he had a buck tag in the leftover 2nd draw and then he drew an Arizona Coues deer tag.
We went out during muzzleloading backpacking and calling and got into a group of cows and bulls. It was fun seeing a mature bull chasing cows. Oct came and we went out for pronghorn. Saw a buck put a stalk on and made it happen less than 100 yards. We then went out for muleys 2nd season. We saw plenty of deer just no bucks that were shooters. 3rd season we booked it to southern Arizona for Coues, the grey ghost. Our plan was to shoot anything bigger than a spike as we had limited time due to school. First day out we saw many deer but no bucks. We even got close to javilina. 2nd day some friends came out from phx and took us out. We saw a nice buck but he was skylined. We saw a few bucks on the other side of the ridge and it ended up being a 475 yard shot on a forky. The mtns in sourthern Arizona are rugged and chasing Coues was loads of fun. We can’t wait to do it again.
